Like many others, I've owned Sylenth for some years...and while I have done some deep tweaking of presets to get them where I'd like them to be in the mix, etc...
I had not sat down and WORKED UP SOUNDS FROM SCRATCH with Sylenth.
One of the goals that I had for this project was to push toward various older synth sounds but also to add layers of rhythmic complexity...or as much as Sylenth will allow in light of its modulations options.
Don't get me wrong: those options are pretty nice, but they're a little limited. Limitations can be a good thing: They force you to approach from different directions and dig into the corners ;]
I hope you find some of these goodies useful.
I had a blast coming up with them.

the ones released in the last 18mos are really very nice... but none are as ...maliable...or as ornery as the delays in Ronin.
While Ronin IS capable of much MUCH more than the 18 presets in this bank, the concentration here is on ...unusual... delay application.

Here's the story. I used to manage a comic shop. While all our customers were colorful characters, there were some that really were noteable. I made wonderful friends in my 8 years in "the entertainment business"!
One of these friends is a fella that likes to talk. I mean- he TALKs! On numerous occassions, I had threatened Matthew that "one day, I'll have my microcassette rolling and you'll be source material for a "composition"! Everyone who was a customer at the shop eventually heard this threat (as I would use it when I would find my tolerance for his incessant babble waning...) While they all knew I was a musician/computer geek guy, no one really thought I'd follow through. I did.
It gets weirder.
I've used a microcassette recorder to grab ideas (musical mostly)...kind of like a sketch pad, for years- but I was always inconsistent about having it with me. It was a long time before "the events aligned": I had the recorder with me, Matthew was in the store, and I REMEMBERED TO TURN IT ON!!!
Finally, it happened. One winter afternoon- I thought I hit the jackpot. Matthew came into the store, I remembered the recorder and I remembered to turn it on. Then trouble started.
Matthew *usually* could be counted on to be a conversational kaleidescope. This IS one of the things that makes him such an interesting fellow. However... there is one person (another friend and customer who I'll refer to as "Papa Dete" from herein...) that can "focus" Matthew down to one subject: FOOTBALL.
And so it began. Matthew and Papa Dete went on their usual tirade: "Atlanta Falcons=great team, just bad luck VS Atlanta Falcons have sucked for years, there is no hope for change in the future"
I recorded 2 hours of this blather on my microcassette. They were so wrapped up in their debates that they didn't even notice when I flipped the tape!

So...my work was cut out for me: I had to tweeeeze the interesting bits from 2 hours of football drivel. I know this is Supperbowl weekend for all of us yanks but I want to make it clear to the rest of the civilized world that NOT ALL Americans are rabid over football. I personally watch the highlights on the news if I happen to be in the room...

Once I had the ...interesting bits from the tape chopped and cleaned up a bit (using SoundForge) I constructed this Frankenstein monster of a tune in Acid 3 on a PII350 PC. It took me a couple of weeks to assemble and another couple of tweaking, but this was gonna be a birthday present for Matthew, so I wanted to get it right.
While he was shocked when I handed him the CD, we played it in his new truck stereo (BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!...you know the kind...) and he was thrilled.

ya never know when someone may make a "tune" out of YOUR rantings...so watch watcha say ;)

ONE was released in 2004 and while there have been a few additions (it IS now polyphonic...originally released as monophonic...) there have been few changes since 2004. That said...it still sounds awesome.
Since 2004, there have been various trends in the VST world to include all sorts of bells and whistles on the synths themselves and it seems that the next new great thing comes to us about once every couple months...so for gems like FF ONE?...those often get left in the corner of our toolboxes...
and that is too bad.

An elegant and seemingly sparse set of controls on the ONE interface completely belie it's ability. While the layout is simple and easy to understand, once one starts tweaking- you are soon realizing there is a bit of genius in the interaction of the Cutoff, Filter EG, Decay and Sustain controls that is a little difficult to explain... it's much better if you find out for yourself... but suffice it to say: they all affect each other and the synth IS very dynamically designed in this regard.
Another hidden or not so apparent feature is ONE's LFO's MG Waveform control... which can swing or shuffle by creating offset to the shape of the triangle/square wave chosen. Again- better demonstrated than described ;]
In any case- ONE certainly proves that 'limitations' can often be quite inspiring if the synth is this solid to begin with!

another great thing about ONE is that its sooo CPU efficient! I you want to slap several in a rack, you can do it and it sounds HUGE!

Another hidden or not so apparent feature is ONE's LFO's MG Waveform control... which can swing or shuffle by creating offset to the shape of the triangle/square wave chosen. Again- better demonstrated than described ;]
In any case- ONE certainly proves that 'limitations' can often be quite inspiring if the synth is this solid to begin with!

another great thing about ONE is that its sooo CPU efficient! I you want to slap several in a rack, you can do it and it sounds HUGE!

sometime in late 2008, Synplant was released by Sonic Charge and received much critical acclaim.
There has never been a synth like it before ...or since. Really.
But somehow, this gem has never seemed to get the spotlight that other synths have received.
Part of that lack of recognition may be due to the unique interface and a completely different approach to subtractive synthesis?
Some might have an inclination to pass it off as a novelty...but it is far more powerful than its seeming lack of controls might lead one to believe...
Synplant does a BRILLIANT job of creating sounds from planting seed from its "grown" branches and by utilization of the cntl click on the main seed to plant randomly...

But the real magic of Synplant IS belied by its elegant interface...

the real magic starts once you dive into the genetic manipulation tool

Although the "dna helix" layout of the genetic manipulation controls might be a little frustrating at first, one DOES get used to the layout and it begins to really feel more and more practical than static knob designs.
I'm not saying that this method would suit OTHER synths, but after the initial learning curve with the genetic manipulation structure and process, one can really get at what Synplant is capable of ;]

When I started this project in October 2016, my initial intent was to put out a set of around 64 to 100 presets.

Once I got that hang of the genetic manipulation tool, that initial number was reached very quickly.
And then, I discovered a way to make each preset TWO "morphable" sounds (switchable via the Modwheel...) so the project expanded and became even more intense.
By Christmas, I had come up with over 400 presets (closer to 800 if you count the fact that most presets were actually TWO presets ;] )
since then, there has been the exercise of volume matching and parsing sounds to appropriate libraries, etc.

While it has been a bit more work than I expected from the start, it has been a blast putting these together!

a few weeks ago, I released "Boards of Carrollton" which speaks to my love of the Boards of Canada sound.

the initial loops (not included here...) were created from samples that are no longer available...those initial loops were run thru an Elektron Octatrack...

the output from those Octatrack experiments is what I was given (Five different sets of sounds= Five Flavors ;] )

I did little more than edit these goodies into bite-size loops for your convenience and pleasure!

the loops are 100% gluten free, free range, USDA corn fed, non-GMO, 100% non MSM, ZERO High Fructose C0rn Syrup and certified aphid free.

they are NOT however fat free.

the initial loops (not included here...) were created from samples that are no longer available...those initial loops were run thru an Elektron Octatrack...

the output from those Octatrack experiments is what I was given (Five different sets of sounds= Five Flavors ;] )

I did little more than edit these goodies into bite-size loops for your convenience and pleasure!

the loops are 100% gluten free, free range, USDA corn fed, non-GMO, 100% non MSM, ZERO High Fructose C0rn Syrup and certified aphid free.

they are NOT however fat free.

the "voice recording" is a recording of a supposed shortwave radio "numbers station" ...I found this snippet to be very interesting and somewhat haunting perhaps...
I set up a track that vocoded the audio from the FF ONE with the voice recording but that is not "overt" in this...just something to give some "body"...

as you might be able to tell from the title and the demos, these are unusual delay presets. Timeless 2 is a very unusual and powerful delay device!
The only guideline I set for myself on this set was to produce presets that were slightly "kaleidoscopic" in nature: they change over time and behave differently from different inputs...
While I did NOT make heavy use of FabFilters AWESOME filters on this set, I did make EXTENSIVE use of the XLFO's ...including routing those to the input itself to get strange repeating and stuttering effects that behave outside the actual "delay timing" ...makes for nice wonky ever changing effected sound.

As all presets should be- these were meant to provide you with a starting place for your OWN adjustments...and I do encourage you to make these presets your own...tweak them silly!
I apologize for the naming on these but they really do not fit neatly into 'descriptive characterization' like "dotted 1/8 echo", etc...
