"My Back Pages" this month will feature songs from Jay Graydon/David Foster Productions. Having worked together across hundreds of sesions, they combined their talents on the wonderful AIRPLAY album at the begining of the 80's. Foster's first band 'Skylark' included his future wife B.J. Cook and they combined their talents and production with the great Donny Gerrard in the early 70's.The first album didn't achieve great success, but the second had a few hits "If That's The Way You Want It" and the cult classic "Wildflower". The guys were both working on an album by Maureen McGovern when the first got the idea to start writing together, It was during a break in recording that Foster was playing around with a tune on the piano and Jay just started riffing some words to go with it. The song eventually turned into "Should We Carry On", which leaned on the Bonnie Jean Cook's lyrics, and the title itself coming from Graydon. From that moment AIRPLAY was born and after the numerous sessions the two had worked on together, they had finally stumbled on something they could call their own.

Take a chance to read the full story of how Graydon & Foster put the whole album together with the help of Steve Kipner and Bill Champlin in Issue 5 of West Coast Music Magazine. And relive some of the great productions they have worked on together and separately for other artists with our playlist. Enjoy!
