DJ Magazine Review.
UK beats-meister Kouncilhouse, generally known for dancefloor killers, here puts out a selection of more chilled-out tracks that have been sitting on his hard-drive for a decade or more. “I’m probably about ten years too late putting these tracks out – hence the album’s title – but I thought better out than in,” he says.
From the trip-hop noir of ‘Delicious’ to the leftfield, Leftfield-sounding ‘Leftfield’, this selection shows the other side of Kouncilhouse. ‘Kontact’ fits into the realms of late-night Kid Loco lounge exotica, while ‘Hostel’ comes over like a mid-90s IDM piece by someone like Higher Intelligence Agency or the Black Dog. ‘Taxi For Upstairs’ is a strung-out early hours soul-hop piece; ‘Look Mum No hands’ is like a long lost Ninja Tune cut by the Herbaliser; and ‘Feel The Way That I Feel’ featuring Sarah Edwards Knight is a fizzing soundtracky electronic hip-hop opus overlain with a gorgeous breathy vox.

The title track itself is a laid-back squiggly trip-hop thang that beguiles and bewitches. The whole album feels like a classic chillout selection – made over the last decade, probably released ten years too late — as its title suggests. If Kouncilhouse had released these cuts a decade ago, who knows where he’d be now?
