@korostyle

Music distribution and PR company Pitch Rider turns four this March and what better way to celebrate than to throw a label arm into the mix as well? Pitch Rider has been a champion of underground dance music across all BPMs and genres from the get-go and that’s exactly the approach they plan to adopt with their new endeavour.

“Inside the Ride” can be thought of as a sample of things to come from the label, a musical mission statement of sorts. The 10 track compilation features a mix of UK bass, techno, grime, footwork, dubstep and weirdo club tunes, representing a diverse label that resists being pigeonholed to one genre easily. From Lorenzo BITW and Foxmind’s slowed tribal drum work on “Don’t Mind” to Slick Shoota’s rapid juke freak-out, “Infinity Tap,” all bases really are covered on this compilation when it comes to club-ready music. ‘Eclectic’ is a word that gets bandied about a lot it music reviews and press releases but “Inside the Ride” is a release that truly deserves that adjective with tracks across the musical spectrum and artists spanning seven counties.

Elsewhere on the comp Amsterdam’s Zoltan crafts a seriously angular UK Funky track littered with syncopation on “Dat Insight” and Corticyte delivers a show-stopper of a track with his deconstructed grime number, “Oscillate”. Dehousy’s “Endless” brilliantly show’s off the Parisien’s ear for a great sample and drum pattern.

One of the most exciting things about this compilation is that it really is a sample of things to come. Half of these heavy-hitting acts have been signed up for Pitch Rider Records releases that will come out within the next year and the team are hoping to sign up more from within and outside the bundle of artists gathered together for this release. There may be a lot of competition out there but with their genre-neutral approach, Pitch Rider hopes that it can make a name for itself in a scene that tends to like compartmentalisation.

Frenchman KOROstyle is among the highest promising artists to join the Platform Music family. Sadyr Diouf's musical alias earned recognition on the Dubstep and Grime scene during 2014 with the release of 'SAI SAI' on wax for Section 8 Recordings. Followed by a couple of other successful releases, the youngster launched his debut 'Project: KOROkat' just a few days ago and is now ready for his Platform Music debut. The works of the Frenchman with Senegalese origin is a blend of everything that inspires him as an artist or has inspired him as a breakdancer and graffiti artist. Although he is directed towards the Grime and Dubstep sound, in KOROstyle's repertoire you will find hues of inspiration originating from numerous genres.

The 'Free Me’' EP consists of three tracks made in collaboration with Waeck and Gizella. The release kicks off on a chilled tip with the track 'Free Me', forming a minimalistic 140 bpm arrangement, nurtured by Gizelle's beautiful vocals. The two performers reappear in the second track, entitled 'Gateway'. The piece contains a tangible Grime touch, upon which, however, we enjoy the beautiful melancholy delivered by Gizella's lyrics. 'Rebellion', a joint track with Waeck, is a typical dubstep track with а dynamic layout and great depth. The release can be categorized as a combination between several genres with a diverse character, yet they all share a main drive concentrated in the low frequency music register. 'Free Me' ЕР is a great addition to Platform Music's catalogue, perfectly underlining the label's focus on new, freshly discovered, yet promising young artists and their boundary-breaking approach in 140 bpm music.

The 5th dimensional entity that is KOROstyle has returned to our realm to share his mind-bending debut album, ‘Project: KOROkat,’ due out next spring on Section 8.

In the two years since his last solo release, KORO’s sound has matured and expanded significantly with a vast array of international influences permeating his 140 BPM workouts. Having spent time travelling between Paris, Shanghai, Bristol and the US, ‘Project: KOROkat’ displays a melting pot of inspirations; jumping from songs like ‘Doused’ and ‘Day & Night,’ with definite chiptune references, to the eski clicks and grime pulses of his VIP of ‘Output 1 2,’ a previous collaboration with Gutcha.

New collaborations with Dev79 and Sunyata subtly flirt with breaks that wouldn’t sound out of place in aJersey/Baltimore club release whilst tracks like ‘Signals’ and ‘BLU’ are more readily relatable to the Bristolian sound produced by labels like Bandulu.

Despite the mish-mash of influences and samples, KOROstyle’s uncanny cinematic approach to production makes for an extremely cohesive album of vibrant and colourful dubstep not dissimilar to early Joker or Rustie releases. Whether it’s glacial, sino-grime sounds or weighty sub-bass tones, KOROstyle’s ear for making killer synths knows no bounds and heightens the dynamics between his ethereal build-ups and guttural drops throughout ‘Project: KOROkat.’ Much like KOROstyle’s inspiration, the mix of producers on remix duties is truly global and spans four continents.

Shanghai’s Swimful reboots ‘Signals’ with some staccato percussion hits and brooding squarewaves, Bristol’sOH91 takes ‘BLU’ in a drill/trap direction, New Zealand duo Sick Cycle mutilate the title track into a frenetic d’n’b belter whilst Detroit’s sinistarr takes previous single ‘Aerokin’ to new heady heights by mixing dubstep drum patterns with slowed jungle breaks.

KOROstyle has mentioned that his main goal ‘is to alter people’s minds and bodies through sound’ and this release definitely succeeds in that respect. Not only are all of these productions bound to get some limbs moving in the club, ‘Project: KOROkat’ defies all expectations of what we think of as ‘dubstep music’ in the best way possible.

"An almost mythical lead runs up and down the pitch-stairs, unfolding what's behind closed eyes. The dream-like state pushing listeners out in the open is soon invaded by ghost-esque entities creating nothing but a monstrous stereo image. All elements converge and escalate into one malicious entity, striking anybody coming close to finding the secrets of Final Fantasy X. Its synth is a bootlegged version that gives an invincible touch to KOROstyle's production. Make sure to awaken from this nightmare, as dreamcatchers won't be able to save your soul - a mind-blowing tribute to Final Fantasy..."
A wicked bootleg that pays homage to the Final Fantasy saga - reinterpreted by our French friend @korostyle. The producer has created a monster that you all should hear, feel and digest...
