He regularly performed dressed all in black, wearing a long black knee-length coat. This outfit stood in contrast to the costumes worn by most of the major country acts in his day: rhinestone suit and cowboy boots.\r\nIn 1971, Cash wrote the song "Man in Black", to help explain his dress code:\r\n\r\nWe're doing mighty fine I do suppose\r\nIn our streak of lightning cars and fancy clothes\r\nBut just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back\r\nUp front there ought to be a man in black.\r\n\r\nOriginal Photo: Jim Marshall\r\n\r\nHe wore black on behalf of the poor and hungry, on behalf of "the prisoner who has long paid for his crime".\r\n\r\nhttps:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2021\/may\/31\/man-in-black-at-50-johnny-cashs-empathy-is-needed-more-than-ever\r\nhttp:\/\/www.johnnycash.com\/","thumbnail_url":"https:\/\/img.hearthis.at\/9\/6\/3\/_\/uploads\/57826\/image_track\/14673223\/w1200_h628_q70_ptrue_v2_m1789208621----cropped_1789208616369.jpg?m=1789208621","thumbnail_width":1200,"thumbnail_height":628,"html":"<\/iframe>","author_name":"Joe Mckechnie","author_url":"https:\/\/hearthis.at\/josephmckechnie\/"}
