My long standing love affair with UKG continues as I start to get my teeth into ripping the shed load of vinyl I accrued over the many years of collecting. I always felt I was 'in the right place at the right time' as far as UK Garage is concerned - cutting my teeth as a DJ in London right as UKG was being born before my very eyes, or rather, ears.

I remember grabbing (literally) a vinyl copy of Todd Edwards' "Locked On: Inside The Mix" album which was then promptly played to death at any and every opportunity. It never left my DJ bag in fact - and I'm surprised it has lasted to this day (even if it might be slightly thinner through the many years of playing). I couldn't wait to rip this - Todd essentially was the originator of the UKG sound, and on the album you can see the origins of this - the US house and garage sound he was championing (particularly that of MK, one of his prime influences) and his own unique productions got picked up by DJ EZ and then the UK started to make it their own. But the US/UK link was so strong and the influence so great, that even the cover of the album showed a radio tuned in to 101.8, which, if any other old skool heads will recall, was the frequency of Freek FM, where EZ really came into his own.

But anyways, in line with that, this mix takes choice cuts from that LP along with some heavy weight Speed Garage monsters lifted from RIP's "The Real Sound Of The Underground", another album that got 'rinsed' by me from day one. Coincedentally, Speed Garage was initially championed by another American, Armand Van Helden (with his mix of Spin Spin Sugar), but was picked up and subsequently owned by the UK - namely by the likes of Double 99 with the seminal classic 'Ripgroove', another tune I play to this day.

But enough of the history - will let the music do the talking as is often the better way. Hope you enjoy the mix inspired by the inspiration behind me from two influential albums (hence the name of the mix) that still drives me today. Kept the mixing 'old skool' too to match the flavour and the mood :)
