A Reel to Reel Studio Mix made by DJ Shaun Buchanan for A Gift of Song

Shaun Buchanan was a bedroom DJ that suddenly shot to fame at the Saint. When he played the dance floor at the Saint was packed. His technical mixing skills were not very good when he started but his music selection was ALWAYS mind blowing.

He was from the UK, and he would fly to London and bring back records to play in New York that were never heard before anywhere else. This Rhythm of the World set was a private mix he made for his friend Owen Frager.

As you can hear in this mix his technical mixing skills were at this point very good. Producer Ian Levine created “Close to Perfection by Miguel Brown" especially for Shaun to play as Sleaze Music at The Saint.

My most memorable night was Shaun Buchanan's Farewell performance on February 23, 1985. He was diagnosed with AIDS and knew he was dying. He wanted to say a final goodbye to all his Fans before he returned home to the UK. Another classic track he made famous at the Saint was "Sound of My Heart by Sleeping Lions" The night of his farewell party I think he raffled off his Turntables and as the night built he played the following combination: (1) Magic Bird of Fire by The Salsoul Orchestra (2) Remember Me by Diana Ross (3) No Regrets by Martinique (4) Love Is Everywhere by Anthony & Rose There was not a dry eye in the room, it was just too emotional for everyone in attendance.
