There's a legendary Hyattsville, MD band that many people still remember, they made a big splash in
the area before its members moved on to other projects. The Mighty Heard was born over a decade
ago by Honest Lee and Terry T at Franklin's Brewpub and quickly grew to incorporate UMD musicians
and play shows in College Park. Formed as a space funk and intergalactic soul band, the group was
then joined by vocalist Abdullah Thompson, aka Dullah D, who brought a cool Hip-Hop swagger to the
mix. The result was creative bliss and The Mighty Heard took off, playing shows and festivals
throughout the Washington, DC region.
In 2010 they recorded an album, “WORD”, which was never released, and the band kept going until
2012. Tragically, a stroke and subsequent brain failure claimed the life of Dullah D in December of
2017. That sad event brought The Mighty Heard back together, and they agreed the album should not
stay in the dark any longer. After much delay, and many life lessons later The Mighty Heard are proud
to present the first single from their album, “Still High”, and the b-side track “Karma”.
“I woke up this morning, … zoning, still high, from last night….” The lyrics are as smooth as the beats
on “Still High”, a laid back and soulful hip-hop ode to Mary Jane. The strength of The Mighty Heard
band can be heard as they hit a steady g-funk pocket beat and let the track ride. Dullah D and Terry T's
vocals complement each other well, its a smoked out session with an irresistible hook! As the smoke
clears and you reach for the visine, Still High emerges as an instant weed anthem in the era of legal
marijuana.
The second track included is “Karma” and right away you get to hear the band working it out front and
center. Steady guitar riffs and a head-nodding breakbeat provide a solid bed for some incredible horns
throughout. Dullah D and Terry T tell it like it is, “This is called Karma, think about the things that you
do, before they come back to haunt you...” The Mighty Heard have created a jazzed out, conscious hiphop
vibe that speaks to issues in the community. If you're really listening, Karma is the kind of track
that will speak to you, music with a message, from the ancestors to the youth.
The first single from The Mighty Heard showcases their lyrical skills and musicianship, while giving
the listener two different moods. The Mighty Heard was Growroom Productions' first flagship project,
and we are very excited to finally release the music to the people, stay tuned for the full length album
coming soon. For all the radio stations and DJs, we are also providing clean versions and instrumental
versions of both tracks.

The Mighty Heard was Growroom Productions' first flagship project,
and we are very excited to finally release the music to the people, stay tuned for the full length album

https://fanlink.to/MightyHeard

With this album, the duo’s gritty private eye deep-dive into traditions uncovers their own unique subterranean brewing of original songs, textures, and inspirations.

Filled with lo-fi rock riffs, quirky synth sounds, and hard thumping drums, the album is jam packed with goodies for late night rhymesayers, public radio segment transitions, or modern gaming domesticity.

The inventiveness and balance between percussion and minimalism is an achievement. Without name-dropping, their crunchy-programmed drums are a 90’s underground hip-hop heads savor. The polyrhythms on tracks have a listener feeling the groove but spun around on the 1. And, the discreet use of percussive sounds adds the perfect touch and spice, where lesser artists would call it a day at 808s.

Whether you are idling away the hours on a sunny-day, searching for an audio party treat, or trying to up the atmosphere for your world’s movie, igloo two’s 'silver eyes meets doctor robot' is primed for delivery.

I can't believe this is real.
I got the news during my happy hour Dj set at Songbyrd Music House and decided to dedicate the remaining 80min to the firecracker that was Sharon Jones. I discovered her and the Dap-Kings at a crucial point in my musical development, (I was lucky to see their amazing live shows four times, including their first two appearances at the legendary Apollo Theater) and they showed me that I could be in love with old soul and still be validated for living in today's modern world. After I found them I never pined for living in another time because Sharon was there to show me, no matter what era we are in, Soul is Timeless, Funk Moves and Showmanship is King. These are obviously tenants passed down from the great James Brown and through Sharon Jones, they'll find root in a next generation of soul performers and musicians.
This is by no means a comprehensive account of Sharon's long career but it is geared toward positivity, which brings dancing and irresistible smiles.
Recorded live at Songbyrd Music House, Adams Morgan, Washington DC
