Suffice to say, that we have a lot to talk about and play a load of great tracks, from a bona-fide rock classic, via a slice of weirdo pop to a heart-breakingly beautiful cover version.
Oh, and unfortunately there's some Robbie Williams, courtesy of Jeff and a snippet of Simply Red from Richy (!)

A right old mixed bag this week. It's been a(nother) while since the last one, so loads to catch up on, again.

Classic pop-but-not-pop from Jeff and a melancholy, atmospheric electronic song from Richy for this week's old tracks.

We introduce a new segment, "Richy's 60 Seconds of Psyche" (actually, more like 90 seconds this time out) before The Randomizer throws up 3 totally different tracks. One of which cause Jeff to utter an uncharacteristic naughty and another that has him reminiscing about paying cable TV bills in Zambia.

We finish of with a complex, kinda-dancey number that pays homage to a true electronic music legend, but which needs some serious trimming down and a 2:40 psychedelic guitar pop track, that doesn't.

We chat about:
- the two very different gigs we went to (rockers Strand of Oaks and electronic act Jungle)
- and the new standard by which all gigs will be measured
- Richy's adventure into East london to see current faves, Colombian psych rockers Follakzoid
- Jeff's 2nd Annual Vinyl Frontier Singles Championship

And we're recoding the show in Richy's new place of residence - The Shed - so if you hear any tweeting brids or kids playing in the background, that's the reasoncwhy!

Hope you enjoy the show - thanks as always for listening!

Another long gap since Ep28 but this is a corker of a show with a very definite 80's feel.

A selection of tracks that either come from "back in the day" or that are most definitely influenced by the "best decade in music history", plus a folky-oddity and a brand new (at least it was a couple of weeks back!) instant Rock classic.

Plus we look back at our trips to see Heaven 17 and Simple Minds (both awesome) and our big day out at the 80s nostalgia-fest that was Let's Rock the Moor.

Let us know if you agree with Richy's comments about his new track - "best rock track evah!"..?
<itunes:author>Richy & Jeff</itunes:author>

Episode 27 and Richy is joined by DJ Mark Cooper as Jeff is off preparing his sequinned outfit for a big night out.

A predictably dancey vein running through tonight's show. We start with a couple of live art-rock numbers from arguably the best concert movie ever filmed, and then Mark throws in a trippy piece of electronica that will undoubtedly prove difficult for some listeners.

Richy brings it back to this dimension with a particularly fuzzy-bass-and-guitar driven (but still dancey) indie-rock track from 10 years ago. Then there's a couple of proper dance numbers - one of which is heavily edited for your listening pleasure, down from 11 minutes (!?) to five.

Finally, in a daring move, Mark plays a video of a piece of sound-art (bear with us!) which has to been seen to be believed. Luckily the soundtrack is pretty decent too, so hopefully you'll be intrigued enough to check it out.

No gigs to report back on this week, but we talk about the importance of "sonics" in music, Mark gets all gushy about vinyl and Richy reminisces about a brilliant live band from (not too far) "back in the day".
<itunes:author>Richy & Jeff</itunes:author>

Episode 26 - quite a jaunty, light affair.

We start with one of Jeff's favourite 80's electronic numbers, from THE avant-synth-pop experi-mentalists, and we play a snippet of a reworked (hit) version featuring a true pop culture icon. Richy kicks off his 'Swedish Indie Pop Trilogy" with a perfectly sweet 3 minute guitar pop number.

The Randomizer poses a near impossible question to answer - not quite 'Best. Song. Ever.' But close.. - and gives us the chance to play a couple of well known tracks by a two of the UKs biggest acts - Jeff's favourite act and our coolest export.

New tracks this week from a French soul singer / producer duo and a champion beat boxer (although thankfully none of that nonsense on this track) set a nice mellow, dancey tone to close the show

Richy reports back from 2 gigs - one good, one a bit 'meh'. We talk about Pharrell vs The Gayes and Kanye for Glasto (controversial? Nah) and we wonder if there's a point to co-headline gig and double A-sides. Jeff announces the first date of his Vinyl Frontier World Tour. And since this is our "kinda-St. Patrick's day show" we don't play any Irish music.

Thanks as always for listening (and for reading this far, if you have... I guess you must have... Haven't you?)

This week's episode was always going to be a challenge for Richy, after a day on which everything he listened to sounded awful and annoying. Luckily, Jeff was in a far better mood (as usual!).

Old tracks are a classic from a soul/pop innovator and legend (with a snippet of a more recent - and in Richy's opinion, superior - rock cover version) and a forgotten but recently resurrected 90s indie/prog band.

The Randomizer is back and throws up some real obscurities - one of which cheers Richy up no end. (Polite notice: Richy's track turns into two tracks, making for 8 minutes or so of challenging, dark alt-Americana).

New tracks from a German, reggae/funk/pop/dance/electronica act, courtesy of Jeff (of course) and a not-really-new-but-new-to-him bit of melancholy Grunge from Richy. We end with a crushing disappointment, an example of what an unchecked heroin addiction can do to a beautiful song.

Along the way we offend Clash fans everywhere, discuss the merits - or otherwise - of moving the charts to a Friday night (in summary: "Meh."), Madge's tumble at the Brits, Jeff's pet subject of original vs cover version and lots of other, probably pointless, nonsense.

Richy mentions the Easter Egg that he hid in the description of the last episode - which is still unclaimed... Hint, hint...

Thanks as always for listening, we really do appreciate it.

We took a week off last week, so it's been a while and we have a lot to talk about - and we deliver the longest (and possibly the most entertaining) episode yet.

Jeff goes proper old, old school for his first track - a quick, deeeep rendering of a true standard - but Richy only goes back a single decade for a concise slice of Brit-pop-mod-punk.

We revisit the Randomizer result that threw us a curveball last show - the tricky "Live Track". Jeff chooses an absolute bona-fide ska classic, one of the very few live Number Ones. Richy goes for a bang up-to-date number from a Radio 1 session, by one of his current faves.

Then it's back to new numbers with some anthemic Irish rock courtesy of Jeff and a piece of piano-led, 80's post-punk influenced alt-rock from Richy (courtesy of Paul 'Geezer' Flower).

Richy reports back from the only gig of the year so far (a very slow start to 2015) and among other things we discuss: naughty band names, cancelled tours and excursions, Phil Collins, Jeff's upcoming big Eurovision night out

We somehow manage to play some more obscure African guitar music, and end up spending waaay too much time discussing the bloody Black Eyed Peas (and Jeff gets far too excited!)

We had a great time recording this show, thanks for listening, hope you enjoy it.

TESTING 1, 2... : if you've read this far, thanks. If you're the first person to get in touch with either of us via Twitter - listen to the show for our @names - we'll send you an iTunes gift card!!!
TESTING 1, 2... : if you've read this far, thanks. If you're the first person to get in touch with either of us via Twitter - listen to the show for our @names - we'll send you an iTunes gift card!!!
Enjoyed the process of making Volume 1 so much that I came back for seconds.

Wondered how to fit a 15 minute track into a mix and then realised - break it in two! So a couple of big slabs of German post-rock bookend this selection, but don't let that put you off!

There's some very nice electronica, of course - love Karen Dreijer's (The Knife) guest vocals on the Röyksopp track, one of Dave Gahan's best solo efforts and the sepulcharal tones of Mark Lanegan to really depress you at the end. :)

Enjoy.

Episode 23 and it's a much longer show this time. Despite neither of us having done much over the last couple of weeks (other than Jeff's excellent, sellout, Vinyl Frontier Album Championship) we find quite a lot to talk about.

Jeff chooses a favourite album track from his college dorm days and Richy surprises with a not-like-him-at-all, bongo-heavy, pre-house-music classic, and then reverts to type, squeezing in a goth-tinged post-punk gem.

The Randomizer gives us some food for thought and then has us going all 'baggy', which gets Richy reminiscing about one of the worst weekends of his life.

New tracks from an unknown (at the moment) balladeer of the pastoral-folk variety and a great electronic-folk/Americana track, played as a preview to gig later in the year.

Some bad news from the dance music scene leads Richy to remember a criminally ignored music-related film, Jeff introduces us to a French singer, club-owner, artist's muse and wartime collaborator, we discuss whether the Pixies are any good and the merits of The Beach Boys. Status Quo get a mention as does Ian Brown's recent appearance in court (but only briefly!), and Jeff looks forward to meeting the legend that is Tony Blackburn!!

Thanks for listening.

Episode 22 and we're easing ourselves back into the swing of things with a short-but-sweet selection of "Easy Listening" and "Dad Rock"!

Jeff chooses a great, unsung piece of Folk Rock from the early 70's that has a great story attached to it. Richy plays a forgotten 80's number by a band who would mutate into something far more successful 10 years later.

The Randomizer lets us get all sentimental but throws up a bit of a dilemma for Richy.

The new tracks are much more "to form" with a couple of excellent electronic pieces - both of which owe a heavy debt to the past.

Not much to discuss in the way of musical highlights - always an issue in January - but despite that, as you'd expect there aren't many awkward silences.

One imminent thing to look forward to, it's Jeff's "Vinyl Frontier - The Album Championship" this weekend, in which Richy - in a highly predictable move - will be singing (not literally) the praises of a Goth / not Goth masterpiece, which has little, to no hope of winning. We'll undoubtedly report back next time!
As is traditional at this time of year we take a minute (well, ok, 81) to look back at some of the great old, new and random music that we've played this year.

Somehow, from the list of almost 200 quality tracks that we've played since we started the show, we manage to choose 3 favourites each.

We own up to the few tracks that we played that seemed like good ideas at the time, but in retrospect were absolute stinkers. We'll aim for fewer in 2015!

We also recall our favourite gigs of the year (both pretty predictable to be honest) and our other music-related highlights and look forward to what we've already got lined up for 2015.

What becomes obvious during this show is that we've both had a blast. In fact we may go as far as to say it's been a vintage year. Let us know how it was for you?

Whether you've been with us since Ep 1 or you're listening for the first time, we're happy to have you onboard. Thanks so much for listening.

Episode 20!!! We made it!

And, at Jeff's insistence, it turns out to be our first Christmas show. Kind of inevitable really!

Of the 7 tracks we play this week, 5 are festive (or at least, somewhat Christmas related), but much to Richy's surprise, not cheesily so. In fact there's a couple of corkers and all, thankfully, a thousand miles away from Noddy and the boys.

We start with Jeff's favourite ever Christmas track, a modern, but classic sounding track from a duo of musicians better know for other stuff. Richy delves into his distant past for an emotive Gothic / Hippy Rock track. Then it all gets a bit bizarre - a 70's Prog cover of a classic Christmas Carol, a sort-of-soundtrack number from a sort-of-Christmas-related film and a Folk-Polka thrash about Santa from a total legend.

And then we're back to normality (at least, normal for us!) for the new tracks - a torch song by Aussie twins (coincidentally born on Christmas Day!) and a final, fun and funky dance number to round things off.

We discuss what it is that makes a Christmas song and don't really come up with anything concrete. Richy reports back from two underwhelming gigs and looks forward to a couple of hopefully better ones in 2015. Jeff plugs his new adventures in radio and trails his last Vinyl Frontier of the year, Band On The Run / Phil Spector's Xmas Album.

Did we miss any cracking Christmas tunes? Our next episode will be our "2015 Review Of The Year" show - has it been a vintage year, or one to forget? What do you think?

Thanks as always listening!

Episode 19 and we're back on schedule - and no technical hitches!

We recap on a pretty uneventful week since Episode 18, no gigs to review this week but some tickets bought. We discuss the result of Jeff's Vinyl Frontier 70s singer songwriter head-to-head and Jeff decides to ease us in to the show with one of the featured tracks for his Old Song. Richy picks a track that may well have been recorded in the 80s, but wasn't.

The Randomizer is temporarily replaced with a "lucky dip" inspired by Q magazine's Top 50 Albums Of 2014 - Jeff's luck holds up but Richy picks two absolute (but short-lived) stinkers. Sorry for the naughty words...

For new songs this show, Jeff goes for an an electronic torch-song by one of the Twitterati, Carey Nokey (geddit?) and Richy plays what could possibly be his song of the year. And then sneaks in another by the same artist - because he can and because they're worth it!

We belatedly discuss The Mercury awards, play a quick clip of one of Aphex Twin's more bonkers but insanely clever tracks, talk songwriters and give a couple of shout-outs to good friends of ours.

Thanks as always listening!

Episode 18 - TAKE 2!

Richy screwed up whilst recoding last week's show, so this is us trying again (and getting it right, thankfully!)

It's been a busy few weeks, so loads to talk about - techno all-dayers, an unexpectedly great (but odd) gig, Richy 'promoting' the first UK gig by one of his favourite acts and a trip to the smoke for Richy's birthday to see one of Jeff's faves Heaven 17.

For this episode's old tunes, Jeff celebrates his return by choosing a hit from one of his favourite acts (who he saw play live last week). Richy chooses a slice of dark electronica by one half of the odd act he saw last week (all gets a bit complicated this sometimes..)

The (not so) Randomizer round throws up a couple of classics, including a beautiful cover version by a much undervalued British great.

Jeff's new tune comes from a great singer-songwriter that neither of us had heard of before, but who's riding high in the US Charts and selling out world tours. Late to the party again! Richy plays an album track from a resurgent 80's super-act.

One last thing to say - last episode was a smash hit, so hopefully we have some new listeners with us - hello to you! And thanks to DJ Mark Cooper for stepping in to fill Jeff's shoes at last minute. Much appreciated mate.

We'll be back on schedule so look out for Episode 19 next week - let us know what you think of this week's shambles!

Thanks as always listening!

Episode 17 and no Jeff this week as he's off on another holiday (!!?) - "Treats this podcast like a hotel, that one!" - so, our good friend DJ Mark Cooper steps in to fill the void.

We start the show with a right screeching racket - a track from a classic, influential album with a naughty name - and then get all funky, dancey, spacey, poppy and gothy with a few other flavours thrown in (listen out for the tracks by bands with really great names).

Co-incidentally two bands from Bristol (Richy's home town) this week, one from ages ago and one from right now.

Jeff "phones in" a piece of melancholy pop for a kind-of randomiser round - it probably could have done with him being here to defend it.

Mark claims the crown for "Richy's most hated song ever played on the show". - displacing Laibach's "The Whisperers" from the throne.

We talk about cover versions - come on UK, The Pet Shop Boys? Seriously!? - a great gig we went to, Krautrock and loads of other stuff.

* There's some annoying interference from the laptop at points during the show. It's not too bad, but apologies anyway. We'll try and sort it for next time.

Thanks as always for listening, we really appreciate it.

And We're back!!

It's been 4 weeks since our last podcast and in this episode we explain why. We think it's a pretty good excuse and it gives us a good reason to play a classic 80s number anyway.

Jeff chooses a 70's electronic rock sequel/homage to a Bowie classic for his old track and a groany old man for his new track. Rich goes for pseudo-classical cinematic goth as his old choice and (surprise, surprise) a bang-up-to-date-out-this-week electronica "choon!" for his new track.

No Randomizer round this show, but Jeff's (failed) attempt to persuade Richy of the merits of a particular 60s pop chantreuse leads to a track they both agree is an absolute gem.

Plus: Richy reports back from seeing Underworld live and thanks his lucky stars for the lineup of bands that he's seen over the last few months, he reviews a great British music movie, we discuss the gentrification of Techno, have the classic discussion about "Hallelujah", and decide that life is indeed "Amazing."

Oh! And Richy gets his Stone Roses and Charlatans mixed up - unforgivable!!

Anyway - we're back on schedule, see you in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for listening!

Episode 15 and we welcome our third guest to the show - DJ Mark Cooper, the previously hidden (at least to us) missing-link between Maidenhead and Ibiza.

As well as discussing Mark's background, influences and current projects:
- Richy & Jeff report back from their trip to RockArchive, London (http://www.rockarchive.com/) for the Isle Of Noises (http://www.isleofnoises.co.uk) book launch with author Daniel Rachel and special guest Chris Difford ('im from Squeeze, innit!)
- Richy flies very much in the face of popular opinion
- Jeff admits to being a "giver"

Musically, Jeff's back in the mainstream for his old track but then dives into deeper, darker water with another Soundcloud find for his new track.

Mark reveals a major influence and reminds us of an 80's gem and then treats us to a preview of his New Bedford Falls Players (https://www.facebook.com/BedfordFallsPlayers) track, "Cool Bango".

Richy chooses a piece of druggy US pop-rock from the early noughties and a track from the new album by one his favourites (clue: see Episode 2!)

The Randomizer throws up a subject ripe for embarrassment and hilarity - and three TOTALLY different tracks.

Episode 14 and it's all gotten a bit heavy...

Things start off gently enough with an ex-Beatle and some nice 80's inspired synthpop (which reminds us of a true 80's gem), but then it takes a left turn into darker territory.

The Randomizer gives Richy a perfect opportunity to depress everyone (although he claims that his track is a 'nice' piece that offers a chance for a moment's contemplation) while, in a first, Jeff decides he can't choose a track for this show's subject, but plays a depressing tune anyway!

And then we're back on familiar synth-heavy ground. Jeff plays a great piece of dark-electro-industrial-lite-dance music from one of his new twitter friends in LA and Richy chooses a new track from one of post-metal's most interesting and hardworking frontmen - one huge band, three great side projects and an unmistakeable voice - which introduces us both to a previously unknown (and stupid) genre.

Richy reports back from Jane's Addiction gig and is reminded that he needs to get on with putting together Now That's What I Call Jeff Vol 1, while Jeff raises the almost inevitable Kate Bush discussion and proves once again that he is the light to Richy's dark.

We had a lot of fun recording this show, hope you enjoy it, thanks as always for listening.

Episode 13 and Richy plays a track from his goth days and scores a small victory in the battle to persuade Jeff that American rock can be good.

Jeff goes for a track by South African pop royalty (now sadly deceased) and plays a great remix of a track by a new Twitter friend.

The randomiser throws up a couple of especially random choices, despite an apparently obvious subject.

Plus: a totally unknown (at least by Richy) 80's track, cancelled festival woes, a callout to fellow podcasters and all-round great guys @ukpodcasters, @yapaudio and @sodajerker (links below) and all the usual inane chit-chat you know and love,

Thankfully little post-production needed in this episode, so Richy got an early night before "leaving on a jet plane" for his holidays.

Back in two weeks!

Thanks for listening, we really appreciate it!!
It's probably a fairly safe bet that Elvis, David Sylvian, A Perfect Circle and Chumbawumba have never been featured on the same show anywhere on the planet before. But such is the random nature of our little show. :)

This episode Richy is left unmoved by The King, but pulls out his trump card for his 'old' selection. The classic Randomizer is back (apologies to any devout Christians offended by Richy's choice), and the two new tracks are both corkers.

We're looking for volunteers to help with a new segment on the show - "Random Friends' Top Tens" - to answer the perennial music geek question: "what 10 albums can't you live without?" Let us know yours and we might feature you on the show.

** Finally - if you're a fan of Richy's choices don't forget to check out the "Now That's What I Call Richy Vol. 1" Mix here: https://hearthis.at/headtoheadpodcasts/now-thats-what-i-call-richy-vol-1/ **

Episode 11 and we welcome our second guest to the studio* - Richy's good friend "Steve from Bristol".

Another great selection of music - classic pop, a little bit of rockabilly, indie rock and several flavours of electronica - downbeat, bedroom, acid/minimal and commercial - and we enjoy a new festival-themed twist on the Randomizer that introduces us to a couple of great new bands.

Richy reports back from his bargain Hyde Park metal excursion, screws up a bit (but isn't really bothered), experiences one of the major problems with Spotify and underwhelms with another US-alt-rock choice.

Jeff tells us about a chart milestone, mercilessly plugs the upcoming Led Zep 4 Vinyl Frontier and stays true-to-form, throwing in another great Depeche-mode influenced, bedroom electronica artist.

Steve, depresses us with a jazz/blues (?) classic, probably offends one of the best up-and-coming (not "Arctic Monkeys wannabes") bands and introduces Rich to yet another outstanding German acid/techno artist.

If anyone else fancies being a guest, drop us a line!!

Episode 10 - EPISODE 10!!

A epic show and a mini-milestone this week. We're both happy to have made 10 quality episodes and (mostly) pleased with the music choices we've made.

We've played 87 tracks from loads of different genres and from all over the world, and on the whole we've liked what each other's bought to the "decks". We've got plans for a couple of special edition podcasts that we'll unveil soon.

In the meantime, this week we have another mixed bag - some mainstream tracks, some decidedly not. Welsh folk. British folk. More American 70's-influenced rock (not a Fleetwood Mac cover band, but close!), all-girl-post-punk and a banging remix of a favourite track from last weekend's Glasto coverage.

Hear about Richy's lucky purchase and his birthday plans for November. The Randomizer throws up a classic. We have a quick discussion about the best "Best Of..." albums and Richy tells Jeff about a 'hidden' function in iTunes. Plus, find out who won the Erasure vs Pet Shop Boys Vinyl Frontier battle.

Thanks as always for listening, we really appreciate it!!

Episode 9 in which Jeff consolidates his position as Mr Mainstream by choosing a live-electro-orchestral-pop-gem from a gig that he was actually at, a summery slice of urban dance pop (with a slightly melancholy edge) and a nicely reworked classic.

Richy picks a stylistic mish-mash from the late 90s, a 70s MOR influenced track with great lyrics and gets the excuse he's been after to play one of his gothic favourites.

Plus: Richy issues a disclaimer and Jeff tells him not to worry about it, we talk about another inappropriate compilation, report back from a couple of gigs (to summarise, both brilliant) and discuss the likely outcome of this weekend's Erasure vs Pet Shop Boys duel at The Vinyl Frontier.

And, of course, the usual load of nonsense.

Episode 8 - another (possibly our most) chaotic affair, featuring our first special guest, winner of the Vinyl Frontier Singles Championship, Mr Steve Carman.

This episode's highlights:

-Steve tells us why The Jam were his number 1 pick for the Singles Championship and then proceeds to confuse and horrify us with his choice for the Randomizer round. Strangely, he didn't put us off having guests though, so we'll line up a few more for future episodes.

- Jeff performs an acapella jingle for "The Randomizer", chooses some more great electronica for his new track and discovers his "theme song".

- Richy gets a chance to vent, chooses a couple of moody piano heavy pieces (not Richard Clayderman) and decides not to edit out some of this week's cock ups ;)

Episode 7 and it's all gone a bit "easy listening"...

Mostly mellow this week, if you're looking for metal you came to the wrong place! Although... stick around to the end, the Wovenhand track is quite noisy.

Jeff picks a great story song by Britain's favourite piano-basher/music-show-host and can't resist throwing in another dollop of bedroom electronica, while Richy goes for a beautiful piece of mid-noughties shoegaze and some fire-and-brimstone folk metal...

We decide to play a few more tracks all the way through this week, mostly on the strength of the Alexi Murdoch song - it would've been criminal to fade it out. :)

Taurus - Spirit (excerpt)
Jools Holland feat. Louise Marshall - I Went By
Engineers - Come In Out Of The Rain
Alexi Murdoch - All My Days
Billy Joel - Captain Jack
Maxwell's Complex - Hurting Inside Out
Maxwell's Complex – It Doesn’t Matter Two (excerpt)
Maxwell - Sumthin' Sumthin' (excerpt)
Wovenhand - The Refractory

There's a lot of talk about live music, we pass judgement on the Taurus / Led Zep legal case, Richy dredges up an aberration from his collection and Jeff tells us about the Vinyl Frontier Single Championship, which Richy is "competing" in but has no possibility of winning!

Great tracklist this week, but as always, let us know what you think. We're still after ideas for the Randomizer too (it's Jeff's favourite bit of the show!)

Thanks for listening, we really appreciate it!!
<googleplay:description>Episode 7 and it's all gone a bit "easy listening"...

Episode 6 - All over the place again this week, some great tracks and a couple of (not so) guilty pleasures. We had a lot of fun with this one!

Voodoo swamp-blues, twee and not twee indie, classic 70s, and bang up-to-date-out-this-week goth-tinged stadium rock and several points in between.

C W Stoneking – The Love Me Or Die
Six By Seven – Brilliantly Cute
U2 – Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me (excerpt)
David Soul – Don’t Give Up On Us Baby (excerpt)
Helen Reddy – I Am Woman (excerpt)
The Boy Least Likely To – I’m Glad I’m Hitched My Wagon To Your Star
The Horrors – In And Out Of Sight
The Horrors – Sheena Is A Parasite (excerpt)

All this, plus a shout-out to the guys at http://www.UKpodcasters.com, pub quiz nightmares, misheard lyrics, the worst music currently being used in a TV advert and Jeff plants a horrible vision in Richy’s mind.

This week's "competition": we're after more subjects for The Randomizer, so post your suggestion/s on Soundcloud or Facebook. We'll choose our favourite one and if you're local to us you'll win a pair of tickets to Jeff's Electric Eighties night, May 16th in Marlow, if you're elsewhere we'll send you something nice :)

Definitely our most diverse episode yet.

Commercial dance music from 90's South Africa, bonkers 70's synth from Nigeria, disappointing industrial rock, some sad folk (is there any other kind?) a stomping indie-electro-dance number and a few other oddities for good measure.

Richy realises that things have moved on A LOT over the last 20 years and Jeff gets to play a favourite synth track that definitely won't get an airing at Electric Eighties 2 (...or will it?)

Mandoza - Nkalakatha
William Onyeabor - Good Name (excerpt)
Love Spit Love - Half A Life
Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting (excerpt)
The Revolting Cocks - Stainless Steel Providers (excerpt)
Adam Holmes - Oh My God
Liars - Vox Detuned D.E.D.
Visage - Mind Of A Toy (excerpt)

Looking at that track list now it really does look all over the place! There's definitely some interesting stuff there and I think we managed to keep it reasonably coherent!

Fourth episode and two very different tracks for our first choices and then - totally coincidentally - we both went for folk-infused, psych-rock Americana for track two.

There's a couple of tracks from - what feels like - a loooong time ago, some classic reggae and an equally classic late's 80's dance hit.

Plus introducing two new features

- "The Randomizer" - not sure we've quite ironed out the concept yet but it led to two great tracks
- The Competition - win tickets for Jeff's "Vinyl Frontier - Exodus" on April 16th (or something else if you can't make it - details at 1hr 5mins if you want to skip straight to it!).

Plus - hear the phrase "ghetto blaster" three times - are we even allowed to say that these days..?

Tracklist:-
Bob Geldof - The Great Song Of Indifference
Puressence - This Feeling
Phosphorescent - Song For Zula
The War On Drugs - Under The Pressure
Strawberry Switchblade - Since Yesterday
Depeche Mode - A Question Of Time
The same format as before, but with added music - we decided we'd play some excerpts of tracks from some of the "related artists" that we end up talking about. Let us know if you think this works.
(Richy got a bit carried away with Ryan Adams...)

This weeks tracks:
Nick Heyward - My Heavy Head

Our first show, unsurprisingly containing a few equipment-related hiccups, but overall a pretty good stab at it.

This week's tracks:

- Billy Bragg "Waiting For The Great Leap Forward"
- Black Lab "Without You"
- Bright Light Bright Light "I Wish We Were Leaving"
- I Break Horses "Weigh True Words"
- Coldplay "Midnight"

Notes:
- When I talk about The Shins, I obviously meant Broken Bells
- It was Marillion not Simple Minds (or T'Pau!)
- M83's album is "Saturdays = Youth"

Thanks for listening!
