"Pedrito Sazón" is a raw, heartfelt fusion of funk, hip-hop, and Latin rhythms, telling the gripping, real-life story of Pedro – a man caught in the grip of violence, poverty, and drugs, yet determined to rise through his passion for art. With vibrant funky riffs, a powerful trumpet line, and a blend of gritty guitar and Latin elements, this track channels the spirit of bands like Rage Against The Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers, while maintaining its own unique sound. The song’s infectious groove and solid flow capture the battle for survival, hope, and self-expression in a harsh world.

Cris Guillén: Flow, trumpet.
Santiago Cercavins. Music collab.

... I don’t think anything funkier has ever come out of Bucaramanga than *¡¿Por qué no me avisó?!* When Mario (our sound engineer) handed Carlos the master recordings, we didn’t think twice—this had to be the first track on the album. People were going to know what we were about: we were a funk band, a real one. We could play it, and we *had* it!

Arranging the horn section for this track was a blast. We selected the songs that would have horn arrangements (*¡¿Por qué no me avisó?!*, *¡Pa’ qué más torta!*, and *La Primera*), recorded them on a stereo cassette, and then, up on the rooftop of our rehearsal space (*el ensayadero*), we started singing the horn lines while playing our instruments. Carlos wrote them down as we went. The three of us used to harmonize vocally when we took breaks from playing, and that’s how we drafted the ideas before working on them with Jacobo Reyes—another *mad scientist* of music.

After refining the arrangements, Carlos took the charts to the studio and laid them down with Henry "El Japonés" (trumpet), David Jácome (tenor sax), Dimitri Reznik (trombone), and possibly Jacobo too—I’m not sure… I *should* have been there, but I was wasting time elsewhere. Carlos called me to come, and I didn’t go. But man, what a lineup for such a killer track!

As for the title, *¡¿Por qué no me avisó?!* (which translates to *Why didn’t you warn me?!*)—let’s just say it comes from an *unexpected* moment of intimacy… 💦👅
