Old Skool

by Grant Holmes

Playing right through the spectrum from Disco to House, Grant Holmes is resident DJ and co-promoter at Edit. Presents, when not on Edit duties Grant can be found playing at various nights and festivals around the north such as La Discotheque at Manchester’s Albert Hall, The Beat Herder Festival and Drop the Beat Festival

Hailing originally from Blackburn, Grant’s early teenage years luckily coincided with the boom of the illegal Blackburn Warehouse Parties and Acid House music explosion, and this is where his love of house music was forged. Grant then progressed from house music obsessive train spotter to DJ’ing in clubs at night and working in record shops during the day. Grant has been DJ’ing professionally in clubs and bars since the summer of 95.

During the 90's Grant guested at various venues around the UK such as Bar Rhumba London, Dry Bar Manchester, Life Manchester, Fusion Burnley, Club Xpo Burnley, The Blue Note Todmorden, The Mill Preston, Park Hall Chorley to name but a few. Grant was also regular face on the Midlands house club scene playing numerous guest spots at some of Birmingham’s biggest nights such as 'Crunch' at The Venue and 'S.L.A.G' at the Steering Wheel.

Between 1997 and 2000 Grant was best known for his long term weekly house music residency at ‘Federation’ (a now legendary 90's House night) which was held at The Main Entrance nightclub in Blackpool, this is where he became friends with Phil Rose (aka Jaegerossa) who was also a resident at the night. After Federation sadly closed its doors for the final time after a sell-out millenniums NYE event, the DJ's behind Federation went on to start a new night 'Play' which was hosted at various venues around Greater Manchester including Phillips Park Hall and J2 Bolton during the early noughties. At the same time Grant also ran his own night called Fun-da’mental which was hosted at different venues around the East Lancashire area, before deciding that a change of scenery and hemisphere was required so he moved to Melbourne Australia.

When Grant returned back to the UK in 2014 he hooked back up again with Jaegerossa who had established Edit. presents back in 2012 and the rest as they say is history.
