GOVERNOR "Sovereign Authority Of The Dancefloor"

That's how this Soweto born DJ & producer from the epitome of culture - history, food, dance and entertainment has created his streets cred. Born Simphiwe Mnguni at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. Governor describes his proprietary style of DJing as 'energetic & enchanting' he infuses together all the harmonic pieces of music that he loves best; hypnotic synth work, emotive piano chords, ethnic percussion backdrops, melodic logdrum basslines, and trendy vocal hooks… all on top of a pronounced foot-shuffling amapiano beat.

Governor's teething entry into the South African music scene began with him discovering and later signing "Scrapyard" a Soweto based Kwaito group to his then label Point Blink Entertainment which had a licensing deal with Heita! Records a subsidiary of Song BMG. The Soweto born DJ and producer has orchestrated various ground breaking moves in the entertainment industry such as producing Metro Fm's first Hip Hop show "Open Mic Set" anchored by Zak Dakile, Penny Lebyane and Tbo Touch. Governor has co-produced numerous trailblazing and disruptive TV shows on DSTV and SABC such as Sghubhu, Mzansi Insider (2010 World Cup Filler) & Music Lounge etc. Governor's involvement in a variety of music, tv and radio shows have been the catalyst of launching some of the biggest names in the South African entertainment industry.

In 2019 Governor created a very successful franchised Amapiano nationwide Tour called the #60GigsTour which saw him DJing to a national audience in many highly rated festivals, clubs, lounges and shisa nyamas from Musina in Limpopo to Gugulethu and Khayelitsha in the Western Cape.
On the 11th September 2020, Governor released his long awaited first studio album titled Struggle & B*S which is the embodiment of the ghetto, delivered through the pulsating and rhythmic sounds of Amapiano; with the intent of creating an escapism from the daily hardships of growing up in the ghetto. The 12 track body of work features hit songs such as Towbar, Mzabalazo, Kwela Kwela to mention a few.

In February 2021 Governor followed up with Struggle & Promises which is an album centered around February the month of LOVE. Governor and his production team "T&T MuziQ" went deep into the topic of LOVE, Break Ups and Make Ups to give an emotive artistic expression curated against the backdrop of Amapiano grooves. The lead single “Ngedwa” peaked at number 5 on Spotify’s “Amapiano Grooves” playlist and on other notable Amapiano genre based playlists on Spotify and Apple Music

VOICES IN MY HEAD is Governor’s latest two track EP released on the 10th of September 2021. The lead single on the EP is Voices In My Head which is a sultry Amapiano track infused with elements from the Deep House genre. The tracks enchanting vocals and melodies are guaranteed to awaken the listener’s spirit… “Long Live Amapiano”. Tong Po is the second single on the EP. Tong Po is a vibey and comical Amapiano track layered with charming vocals and word play. The track follows the popular signwriting technic of using fictional movie characters to create a dancefloor hit. After the success of popular tracks like John Wick, Van Dam, John Cena & Yuri Boyka. Tong Po is certain to take center stage on music playlists, airwaves and charts.

Governor's artistry has seen him share stages with Black Coffee, Fistaz Mixwell, Kabza De Small, Dj Maphorisa, Samthing Soweto, MFR Souls, Samthing Soweto and many other A-List entertainers.
