*and for those who want to go deep(er) with me (thank you if thats the case) heres some liners to support the cause!*

**80: downtempo to some, speed limit to others**

Most people in the know, especially djs, tend to mildly smile about music being played in public at or around 80bpm… especially in Ibiza. How can you dance to THAT, they ask me with a raised eyebrow - any dj could play “some chill” like that (and give a damn about beatmatching at the same time) before burning the piano in the usual uptempo style once things “finally get serious”. That’s what they think. That’s how far we’ve come. So it’s about time to put a foot down and balance it out somehow.

To me (and a growing number of other more sensitive folks out there), a conscious downtempo mindframe is mandatory. Not only in terms of music by the way - and therefore quite a serious thing to begin with. It’s simply a healthier way of life.

Since the standardized “120bpm and above” dance music took over most daytime events, beaches and even morning- or daytime radio, the art of selecting, mixing and definitely also dancing to proper downtempo music seems to have gotten lost in translation somehow. Which is weird, not only because that would mean we mostly ignore a medical fact, no matter if we chill, hang out or party: the heart of any healthy human being should beat somewhere between 60bpm and 100bpm. Your heartbeat rate automatically adapts to the music you are exposed to after only about a minute of listening. So the logical conclusion would be that 80bpm or anywhere near that is the best we can have. And that includes dancing by the way.

Funny enough, almost everywhere you go or turn to in Ibiza, chances are you get blown away by the sheer energetic inadequacy of the soundtrack to the situation you find yourself in. Why on earth would you want to be stressed out by uptempo beats for breakfast or lunch on the beach or at home, especially after you maybe just survived a night out on a techy, testosterone filled dancefloor a few hours earlier? You might not even realize it - but if you are motivated to live, think, eat, drink and dance uptempo constantly, it stresses you out. Given that stress is the no. 1 killer on a global scale, way ahead of even cancer for example, you go figure.

To make a long story short: this mix as you might have guessed by now is dedicated to a downtempo state of mind, yet at the same time the slower beats selected here have such an enormous spiritual and uplifting power (to me and those other folks) that I can’t help but to share them with you. Sensual, percussive, joyful and at times shamanic energy, fuelled by mainly tropical grooves that are like friends to me: from cumbia to dub reggae and back again… and closing with a world exclusive, a brand new and as of yet unreleased song by Solar Moon, the mystic downtempo collective I happen to be part of since more than 20 years now.

Did you know by the way that 80 is the absolute speed limit on all Ibiza roads? You wouldn’t want to risk a speeding ticket for driving 120 on a challenging road as it is not only dangerous to your health and that of other beings but to add insult to injury, you might also risk losing your driving license. See, I told you to take it slow.
