When the boss of the label, Guy J gets his hands on the original he has taken the track in a slightly different direction and more aimed at the dance floor. The track is still very much a moody progressive number but he has chosen to pick up the pace slightly and added some proggy stabs and only chosen to use snippets of the original vocal, creating more of a dub sound. I really love the keys Guy J has used in the second break which helps to lift the track nicely into a stunning melodic dream like place.

You can tell when Nick Warren's on the decks. The music emanating from the man is that perfect club mix of driving percussion and soaring musicality, bursting out of the speakers, soaking everyone in melody, drenching them in sound. On the
floor, where it really matters, his crowd experience all the peaks and troughs that make his music so unique. Locking on early, you'll hear his deeper take on house, which morphs, as the club mood changes, into harder territory, music for sweating and losing yourself to. And at that point when the light are low, when smoke fills the room and people are dancing on instinct, that's when the melodies start to rise over the top, washing the worries and exertions of life away, completing the club experience. That's why Nick Warren is so respected, because he knows how to truly work a club, and a crowd, delivering again and again. That's what comes with vision and, just as importantly, experience.

Nick, a music obsessive who grew up on punk, reggae and pop was, like so many DJs turned onto the power of house music in the late 80s. Living in Bristol, he'd been playing tunes for a few years before, running his own club night, Wiggle, in the city with a friend and he took immediately to this new sound coming from America. In 1990, a new house club, Vision took the city by storm and in a perfect bit of timing, he was offered the chance to play in the upstairs room, spinning weird downbeat Balearic records and mixing house with music by The Clash and Frank Sinatra. Catching the attention of a group of guys who had their own band, he was roped in to tour with them as their DJ when they went to play America. The group was Massive Attack.

As their official DJ, he began working on music of his own. Joining up with another Bristol producer, Jody Wisternoff in 1994 to form Way Out West, they recorded the seminal 'Ajare' single together, a huge progressive house club hit. Three years later, and with the duo now signed to Deconstruction, it was re-released, this time breaking into the charts and finally, the nation's consciousness. Then came 'The Gift'. With a memorable hook line culled from an old hardcore track, its mix of ambient soundscapes and breaks won it universal plaudits, sending Nick and Jody onto Top Of The Pops and catapulting Nick into the league of the superstar DJ. Their two albums, 'Blue' and "Intensify" took every single one of the pair's influences and shaped them into a groundbreaking collection of tracks that stayed in the CD players of the UK and beyond for a long, long time. Their third album was released in 2005, which they toured as a live band with Faithless.

For those who've followed Kennedy's work, "settling" hasn't been his specialty; he's a restless character. He came up as a dubstep producer alongside Mala, Coki and Burial, but before long began to embrace the rumbles of bass emanating beyond South London — most notably the sound of Chicago footwork. Kennedy's 2011 Fabriclive mix (credited to both Ramadanman and Pearson Sound) doubled as an overview of bass music in the new decade, ranging from dubstep escapees Burial, Pinch and Mala to the tech-house of Julio Bashmore and darker techno tones of Levon Vincent. A recent single, "Raindrops," was iridescent and ambient.

But for his debut, there's a sense of patience to Pearson Sound's productions; of not rushing toward the next new thing, but instead carefully considering each and every sound, be it thunderous or minute. (Listen to "Asphalt Sparkle" without the right speaker set-up, though, and the earth-moving bass might sound downright slight.) Pearson gets a tone so deep and resonant that it's like a seismic event beneath the otherwise anthemic synth chords, making the entire track wobble like Jello. "Crank Call" literally vibrates, but with smaller sounds, the way a phone might buzz across a tabletop. Listen more closely, and beneath the hi-hats and ghostly pads, there's more ringing, as well as a heavy breather at the other end of the line.

"Glass Eye" slots into the modern bass canon, its rumbling hits offset by splashes of cymbals, tricky drum programming and snares that wobble like spinning plates. Solomun has played a major role in redefining European House Music, with productions, remixes and stand-out DJ sets that take the very building blocks of House and sensitively reconstruct them: adding a fresh, ultramodern twist to the genre. A well-respected underground producer for a number of years, he regularly hits the top spot of readers’ polls in music industry magazines - confirming his measure in every important category.

His stratospheric rise in popularity kicked off in 2012, after a legendary first season on Ibiza with his own label-inspired Diynamic Neon Nights at Sankeys.

Here, he and his crew took up the challenge and initiated a take-over of what was becoming a clichéd scene. This first assault on the White Island brought Solomun his just-rewards in the shape of Best Producer title at the DJ Awards Ibiza and DJ of the Year from Mixmag Magazine. It follows that “Neon Nights” will continue at Sankeys again this summer, along with an own night every Sunday at Pacha/Ibiza “Solomun +1”.

Solomun loves the studio, this is clear from his output: always emotive, visceral, authentic and always promoting his reasoning that “Music is Moments”. That said, his passion for DJing can never be questioned by anyone who’s seen him in-action, all over the world. As head of Diynamic Music, he’s a consistent but still he’s not afraid to take the audience on a journey. It’s a sensual style where deepness, funkiness and human vocals go hand in hand.

Running two successful labels (Diynamic and 2DIY4), one of the most respected underground Clubs in Germany (EGO) and the Diynamic Radio Show (broadcast in over 30 countries), is a true indicator of Solomun’s deep love of music and of his people. His work ethic is managed in much the same way that he brings a variety of influences into his music: a little soft touch here, a cool dance move over there and a real, honest commitment to “Doing It Yourself”.

As a label boss you have the ability to seek out new talents and push their work, but just putting music out does not guarantee the attention of the masses. With such an excessive number of releases each week, sometimes you need to add a little twist, shake up the game. Diynamic, one of the biggest names in dance music, has recently done just that. The Four to the Floor series is halfway through and with another eight tracks to go we have the pleasure of premiering Malandra Jr.'s "Infinity." Dark and melodic, the track is simply brilliant.

A well-respected underground producer for a number of years, he regularly hits the top spot of readers’ polls in music industry magazines - confirming his measure in every important category.

His stratospheric rise in popularity kicked off in 2012, after a legendary first season on Ibiza with his own label-inspired Diynamic Neon Nights at Sankeys.

Here, he and his crew took up the challenge and initiated a take-over of what was becoming a clichéd scene. This first assault on the White Island brought Solomun his just-rewards in the shape of Best Producer title at the DJ Awards Ibiza and DJ of the Year from Mixmag Magazine. It follows that “Neon Nights” will continue at Sankeys again this summer, along with an own night every Sunday at Pacha/Ibiza “Solomun +1”.

Solomun loves the studio, this is clear from his output: always emotive, visceral, authentic and always promoting his reasoning that “Music is Moments”. That said, his passion for DJing can never be questioned by anyone who’s seen him in-action, all over the world. As head of Diynamic Music, he’s a consistent but still he’s not afraid to take the audience on a journey. It’s a sensual style where deepness, funkiness and human vocals go hand in hand.

Running two successful labels (Diynamic and 2DIY4), one of the most respected underground Clubs in Germany (EGO) and the Diynamic Radio Show (broadcast in over 30 countries), is a true indicator of Solomun’s deep love of music and of his people. His work ethic is managed in much the same way that he brings a variety of influences into his music: a little soft touch here, a cool dance move over there and a real, honest commitment to “Doing It Yourself”.

As a label boss you have the ability to seek out new talents and push their work, but just putting music out does not guarantee the attention of the masses. With such an excessive number of releases each week, sometimes you need to add a little twist, shake up the game. Diynamic, one of the biggest names in dance music, has recently done just that. The Four to the Floor series is halfway through and with another eight tracks to go we have the pleasure of premiering Malandra Jr.'s "Infinity." Dark and melodic, the track is simply brilliant.

Some seek a permanent state of hype, while others like Hernan Cattaneo find liberation in being freed from the shackles of such intense scrutiny. The Argentine’s refreshing approach to DJ’ing and making music has ensured that over a decade on from the time he exploded into the public consciousness, he’s as engrossing a force as ever. His contemporary sound continues his love of rich melody and atmospheric textures, but draws on possibly a wider palette of producers and styles than ever.
“It’s been GREAT years for melodies and thankfully even German techno producers are not afraid to use them anymore” he says. “As a result, I think the music now is the best since the early 2000s. I think the Israeli producers are the most interesting ones, from established producers like Guy Gerber and Guy J to newer people like Chaim or Guy Mantzur, Hakimonu, Sahar Z…”

With the renewed interest in what some might call ‘progressive’ styles – Innervisions, Life & Death et al – the time for him to present his enduring sound to the world through this stunning Balance compilation couldn’t be better timed.

Disc 1 harks back to the golden age of downtempo music in the 1990s, evoking classic Cafe Del Mar and Northern Exposure mixes with its sumptuous selection of languid soundscapes. It’s a style that has sadly slipped from the spotlight, coinciding with the death of the chill-out room and the diminished ‘Balearic’ focus of Ibiza in recent years – meaning that Cattaneo’s choice of direction feels all the more special as a result. Indeed, he reaches back to 1999 for the low-slung groove of Boards Of Canada’s opener, before moving into a slew of exclusives and reworked versions of some of his favourite tracks from recent DJ sets to suit the chuggier tempo.

“I started asking some producer friends to make special versions of some of their tracks for the albums, and I’ve been very pleased with the results. I really like the way those tracks interact with the others and in many cases, the new downtempo mixes are even better than the original ones.”

It makes for a highly refreshing approach. The mesmerising new versions give these ethereal dancefloor tracks stunning new context and life – like Chaim’s hypnotic Slow Dance Mix of Blue Shadow - while haunting vocal tracks like Weval’s Out Of The Game provide contrast to the glistening arps and top lines of Mano Le Tough and John Tejada, and a smattering of classics dear to Cattaneo’s heart, such as Gui Boratto’s Half Life. As the mix moves towards its conclusion, the energy and tempo nudge their way towards the clubbier climes of the second disc, culminating in a stunning rework of Guy J’s twinkling Dizzy Moments.

Both mixes are littered with exclusive new productions from Cattaneo and his production partners Soundexile, infusing the mix with an even higher level of his musical DNA and boldly demonstrating what a force he continues to be in the studio. The driving bass of their own Into The Edge propels Disc 2 into life before we plunge into the deeper climbs that he’s so renowned for. More exclusives abound from the duo and others alike, a gently euphoric warmth coming over the mix through their own Parallax and Fugazzi, continuing into driving reworks of Guy J and James Teej as we hit the sweet spot of the mix. New material from Guy Mantzur powers us through towards the finale, the subdued beauty of Cattaneo and Soundexile’s Lotus rounding the compilation off with finesse after a rousing crescendo.

Cattaneo has constructed a truly incredible chapter of the Balance Series, beautifully sequenced and mixed and packed full of stunning new material that can’t be heard anywhere else. Such attention to detail and quality should come as no surprise from one of the true masters of the game.

But in spite—or maybe because—of all that, John Digweed is still one of the most influential DJs in history.

Digweed began DJing at the ripe age of 15, when most of us weren't even squiggly lines in our dads' "reserviors." He got his big break in 1993, when he got a gig at the Renaissance Club in Mansfield, UK after a fellow upstart named Alexander Coe—better known today as the techno/deep house messiah, Sasha.

Digweed made his name pushing a progressive house sound that eventually exploded in the late 90s and early 2000s across Europe and North America. In New York City, house music havens like Tunnel, Limelight, Paradise Garage and Twilo were booming. Both Digweed and Sasha held a popular residency at Twilo, where Digweed was revered for putting down marathon sets that often lasted between eight and twelve hours... until Twilo and many of those aformentioned clubs were raided and shutdown by Sgt. Buzzkill AKA NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The end of NYC's hedonistic nightlife days was only a momentarty hiccup in the longstanding career of John Digweed. Since then, he's established the international label Bedrock Records, has released countless albums (including an impressive "Live In" series), and even took the throne of DJ Mag's Top 100 list in 2001.

But that was thirteen years ago, and the position now belongs to Hardwell, a DJ nearly half Digweed's age who is pushing a much different sound, to a much different audience, in a much different time.

Digweed made his name pushing a progressive house sound that eventually exploded in the late 90s and early 2000s across Europe and North America. In New York City, house music havens like Tunnel, Limelight, Paradise Garage and Twilo were booming. Both Digweed and Sasha held a popular residency at Twilo, where Digweed was revered for putting down marathon sets that often lasted between eight and twelve hours... until Twilo and many of those aformentioned clubs were raided and shutdown by Sgt. Buzzkill AKA NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani.

The end of NYC's hedonistic nightlife days was only a momentarty hiccup in the longstanding career of John Digweed. Since then, he's established the international label Bedrock Records, has released countless albums (including an impressive "Live In" series), and even took the throne of DJ Mag's Top 100 list in 2001.

But that was thirteen years ago, and the position now belongs to Hardwell, a DJ nearly half Digweed's age who is pushing a much different sound, to a much different audience, in a much different time.

SBTRKT has announced details of new album 'Wonder Where We Land' as well as a UK tour in October.

The producer's second LP will be released on September 22 and follows 2011's self-titled debut. Scroll down to watch a teaser video for the album. The album's first single 'NEW DORP. NEW YORK', features vocals from Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig. Other guests on the album include Jessie Ware, Sampha and A$AP Ferg.

Earlier this year SBTRKT released 'Transitions', a series of instrumental 12-inches bridging the gap between his first and forthcoming second album. Each track is available to hear at transitions.sbtrkt.com
