Xmas in New Zealand is always shared with flies…. In rural NZ, where I live, we have fat blue and green blowflies. It took a lot of work, but I managed to train some of them to sing along with this song…
The cunningly posed photo was captured by Ronel Broderick. The sounds were captured and/or created by Emma.

A merry cacophony of utterly silly fly music….

Thinking about Blowflies

Where do the blowflies sleep at night?
Do they have cosy beds?
Do the mummies tuck their babies in
and kiss their fuzzy heads?

Do they sing them buzzy lullabies
and bid them to be still,
in a busy blowfly dreaming tree
on buzzy blowfly hill?

Busy blowfly, busy blowfly
you’ve been buzzing far too long,
it is time to tuck your wee wings up
and cease your blowfly song.

I can hear your mummy calling,
you may leave now - yes you may,
or I’ll expedite departure
with a toxic can of spray
