In Songs And Stories this week an hour of music by Brian, Roger, John and Freddie. Not Queen's big hits, but instead of Crazy Little Thing, Somebody To Love and 'BoRhap', the first three LPs from 1973 and 1974. Brian May's hard rock matched extremely well with Freddie Mercury's fairytale lyrics.
Much of their music from those early years would nowadays be called prog rock. I think their second LP is the best and Brian is also very satisfied with it. Queen II is the first LP that the group can record at normal times after the debut was forced to be recorded during the nightly off-peak hours.

Terecht dat 40 Up Radio-collega Bram Van Splunteren die lijst met '100 Beste Nederlandstalige Songs' van de Volkskrant van een beetje peper voorzag. Terecht dat 40 Up Radio-collega Bram Van Splunteren die lijst met '100 Beste Nederlandstalige Songs' van de Volkskrant van een beetje peper voorzag. What a fantastic concert by the Australian Pierce Brothers, two multi-instrumentalists who started out as street musicians. Their concerts still have that vibe. Sometimes against the odds, yes, but that's where the most beautiful culture always arises. This time it's singer-songwriter Fien.
