Nothing but his real name. The german artist and producer Van Bonn is a true traveller in music and life. After formulating a language of drones, hip-hop, hardcore-metal, instrumental rock and techno, Van Bonn presents his transcriptions of his journey in 2014 onwards.

Reimut Van Bonn played drums in a hardcore-metal band besides producing hip-hop before he joined the well known german instrumental rock band „long distance calling“ which went top 40 in the german charts. Van Bonn contributed his deepness to the band’s sound by using, manipulating and dubbing various electronic instruments and audio sources. Moreover Van Bonn recorded loads of “mostly ambient-drone stuff”, as he says, for his alter ego Kadrage, to be kept safe under his bed. While living in Berlin, Van Bonn started to create his very own cosmos of sounds to transfer all this into techno.

Van Bonn’s participation in the dub techno label Telrae, which he did not only record for and where he is recognised as a soulmate of a collective of 5 people, already established him as a tastemaker in this scene. Still a musician on the rise, he gave his debut on his own label Van Bonn Records with the vinyl EP “gradient“ in april 2013 which was perceived very well with techno DJs, tastemakers and people who just love music. But it was his ep about skydiver “Baumgartner”, released in october 2013, that was hailed as a masterpiece and which accounted for a small break through in his career.

Now located in Copenhagen, Van Bonn takes a new perspective on techno to travel and ride the waves of sound without ignorance and abuse…he is a human hellfire after all.

 In 1992 I was flashed of the song “Das Boot” by U96. 
A little later came “No Good” by Prodigy. 
Of course I was a badass and the Thunderdome Compilations didn’t miss in my collection.
 Over the years I’ve kept almost every style of Techno music.
 Several years later, it was about 1994, I started producing. I took my first steps in producing with a Fast Tracker 2 and learned the basic things in producing like composition and arrangement there.
 The years went by and I changed to the popular music software “Reason 2.0″
My style is between Minimal and Dub-Techno.
 In 2005 I started to DJing, first of all with software and in 2007 I changed to turntables and today I went back to software.
 I worked as a DJ at several online radios.
2013 i founded the Dub Techno Label Deeptakt Records and have found my real love in Dub Techno."

"For creating this set I mainly used an Yamaha RS7000 which is a sampler/groovebox combination and a Korg Volca Beats as a drum computer. The RS7000 got an Expansion Board for individual outputs. The different outputs from the RS7000 and the Volca Beats are routed to a standard mixer.

XEED aka Fabian Schinzel, born 1987 in Switzerland, had his first contact with electronic music already in his early childhood. Turntables and mixer attracted the perfectionistic vinyl enthusiast since the first touch.

On the basis of a now very extensive record collection XEED creates with his carefully sorted record case smoothflowing and authentic sets in dark clubs and filthy cellars as well as open air.

In addition to Dub Techno, Deep House also plays an important role in his sets. Every now and then he might also spin some darker techno discs. What matters is quality and depth - but key ingredients are also a certain melancholy and stripped down to bare essentials rhythms.

Besides DJ'ing, XEED also produces under his real name Fabian Schinzel. His first release "Landing EP" was published 2012 on the label Gleichtakt.

"Insect O. is an old hand in Dresden’s electronic music scene. Enthusiastic about the radio show “electronics” on East German radiostation DT64 in the early nineties he started buying records and making music at the age of 14. In the late 90s he was co-founder and resident dj of Dresden’s famouse techno club Flugzeugwerft.


His Music is melodic, dreamy and also kind of frisky but always with a touch of deepness. Each of his track got an own story to tell. The roots of his music are somewhere between dub- and detroit techno. He felt in love with the sound of Basic Channel, Maurizio, Rob Hood or Jeff Mils a long time ago.

His “Bondi Dub” EP, which came out in June 2013, reflects this love for deep techno. Smooth grooves are laying in an ocean of delayed chords. On his last year´s “Birds Over Hong Kong” he shows also a wider range of his artistic pursuit. The tracks “Echoes Of Antarctica” and “Rusty” range from broken beats to electronica sounds to rough techno.

He also shares a big passion for traveling and video filming. New Zealand, Thailand and China are some inspiring places for him, where he shot some video clips for his music. And because music is connecting people all over the world, he inspired people in Sydney, Melbourne, Hong Kong and Koh Phangan with his DJ sets."

We started this competition by simply asking artists to produce tracks that would fit to a big garden full of echos. The response was amazing. We recieved a lot of tracks. Outstanding tracks. We started and kept collecting tracks until the day of the deadline. Martin and me made a deal: we would not listen to any of the tracks before having gathered all of them such that we would not make any preselection but give each track the same chance. Imagine, it was very hard to do so. The day after the deadline, Martin and i just met to discuss and evaluate the tracks. During the entire night, we listened to the tracks without looking at artist names just to be as unbiased as possible until it was done. We selected the sweetest sounds for echogarden and those tracks that are somehow connected to each other. We had so much fun while listening to the sounds - the tracks blew us completely away. Amazing!! Therefore we want to thank everyone who sent us a track and we also want to thank those artists, that are finally not on the list. I really have to say that again, it was just about making a choice of what sounds build a great connection. Nothing else.

We started and kept collecting tracks until the day of the deadline. Martin and me made a deal: we would not listen to any of the tracks before having gathered all of them such that we would not make any preselection but give each track the same chance. Imagine, it was very hard to do so. The day after the deadline, Martin and i just met to discuss and evaluate the tracks. During the entire night, we listened to the tracks without looking at artist names just to be as unbiased as possible until it was done.
