When it comes to culture, we can do one of three things. We can separate ourselves from it. We can merge with it--adapt to it. Or we can offer an alternative and "counter" it. Countering isn't always standing in direct opposition. Think of a "counter-offer" on a house. How do you reconcile your faith with the culture of today?
