In the studio for the first time this year & super excited to have Payfone Phil Passera & Chieka Ononye joining me. There track Quarantine was massive last year on Phil South Golf Channel Recordings.

More about Payfone

Last year saw the emergence of London based disco outfit Payfone, a new project from Producer / DJ's Phil Passera & Chieka Ononye.
The debut 12" titled 'International Smark' (Translation: International Taste ) became something of an underground hit with lovers of retro electro and Balearic alike, sounding like a meeting between Metro Area, ABBA and 80's video game sensation 'OUTRUN' .
Now signed to New York based Golf Channel Recordings, Payfone deliver a weighty boogie inspired 3 track E.P. packed with muscle and modern pop sensibility. This second release comes co-mixed to perfection by In Flagranti’s Sasa Crnobrnja.
The A side cut “Paradise” features the dubbed out vocals of 23 year old Louis Howard Jones and New Orleans native Dayna Talley over a distinct synth drum arrangement that rallies both heads and feet to the dance floor. Flip the record for 2 tracks that feature Swedish / Finnish vocalist Tigerlight.
The deeply funky and minimal 'Mice Life' channels Patrick Adams over some strident drums and staccato guitar.
Subconscient Lamentation, a lush and exotic cover version of the 1970's Black Devil Disco Club album finale', takes us out on a deeper, slower and altogether hazier vibe, as the spacious and vibrant synth work over a strutting bass line and bluesy trumpet serve as a bedrock for Tigerlight’s haunting whispered vocal.
As I won't be in the studio this month "I'll be rolling around in a field at the Low life festival" the boys have sent me a mix. So no talking just two hours of music,

Enjoy

Mind Fair is the conjoined brain-twin of Dean Meredith and Ben Shenton. As much a meeting of minds as it is a melting of minds. A mutual love of hi-fi, lo-fi, Arthur Russell, tape machine’s, strange 80’s European records. First brought together for International Feel with the Armenian tinged disco of ‘Kerry’s Scene’, subsequently together under various guises, such as M.E.B (Let’s Play House), T-Kut (Parkway) and Central Executives, to name a few.

After a slew of twelve inch releases, last year finally saw the release of Mind Fair’s tripped out first long player on Phil South Golf Channel Recordings accompanied by equally far out artwork by Thomas Bullock. Other Mind Fair off-shoot productions can be find found via their own Rogue Cat Sounds imprint as well as an impending Kinfolk release to look out for, if not for any other reason than the glorious Idjut’s version on the flip.
Rogue Cat Sounds also got into the record store day sprit with their fist reissue, a limited press of OPM’s ‘In and Out of Love’ which saw a collaboration between RCS and Chris ‘Mighty’ White at Turbo Island for the alluring full colour artwork of which was also incorporated into a tee-shirt design, sagain very limited but still available exclusive to Piccadilly Records.

With me this month is Scott Fraser. One Half of the fantastic Crimes of the future record label & club night with Timothy J Fairplay. Scott just started he's new label DX Recordings. So he'll be in the studio drinking booze, having a chat & taking to the decks for an hour mix.

Here's more about the man.

One of the unsung soldiers of the UK underground, Scott Fraser first came to the attention of many through his role in BIOS, whose dark jacking techno for labels like the US Black Nation records throughout the 1990s. Regular parties at Glasgow’s Sub Club along with international DJ and live performances established him as a DJ and producer of considerable promise.
As time progressed, he began delving into slower, more psychedelic pastures, eventually moving to London where he joined forces with the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Timothy J. Fairplay and Andy Blake and Joe Hart, while gaining a reputation as a class DJ through numerous city-wide gigs and releasing a clutch of well-received productions on labels including Bird Scarer, World Unknown, Tusk Wax, Astrolab and remixes for Virgo Four on Rush Hour, The Asphodels, Antoni Maiovvi, Black Merlin and Inhalt.
2012 saw him setting up the Crimes of the Future club night with Timothy J. Fairplay with late 2013 seeing the birth of the record label of the same name.
Crimes of the Future has now firmly established its self as both international label and touring club night with a series of essential 12” releases throughout 2014 coupled with dates across the UK, Europe and the USA along with appearances on the Boiler Room and Beats in Space with Tim Sweeney.
As a producer and remixer, Scott has delivered a string of successful solo 12”s and remixes for some of the best house and techno labels and artists across Europe and the UK and has also worked with bands such as Village Green Recordings’ Ellis Island Sound.
2014 saw Scott cement his reputation as a first class international DJ and live act with performances across Europe and further afield with notable highlights as diverse as Fabric in London, Output in New York, Drugstore in Belgrade, Nuit Noire in Los Angeles and Animals Dancing in Melbourne.
He also co-runs the successful Body Hammer party in London with Joe Hart from World Unknown.
2015 will see Scott play at Bloc Festival, Crimes of the Future, Bodyhammer and a return to the US for a second tour. Releases are already lined up on respected European and US labels along with remix requests for several international artists of note including the re release and remix of the Fini Tribe’s classic 101 on One Little Indian records for Record Store Day 2015 and his first solo release for Crimes of the Future as “Nothing but Blood” which includes a remix from Silent Servant.
Spring 2015 Will also bring a new physical record label from Scott called “DX Recordings” which will be exclusively for his own more club focused house and techno material, the first release arriving in mid May.

This month our guest is Black Booby.
Well worth tuning in, He is as mad as a box of frogs.

Black Booby is Richard Rogers, a name and indeed a one-man party-machine who will be familiar to regulars of London’s house, techno and disco scene. But while Rich in real life isn’t backward about coming forward – and is as likely to be found leading the charge on the dancefloor as debating about tunes at the afters, though armed with more knowledge than most in the latter situation, as well as more moves than most in the former (having been a breaker in his mostly misspent youth) – musically, Rich has let the Back Booby edits speak for themselves over the last few years.
But now with BB07 about to drop next Monday, Rich is moving out of the shadows… BB07’s double –A side sees old Black Booby buddy Gene Hunt, who needs no introduction to Ultradisko listeners, I’m sure, pull out some gold from his 80s DAT cupboard and get RAW with ‘1015’ (see his Rush Hour comp from a while back for his inspiration there) and ‘Dr Roland’ (hmmmm). Then over on the B there’s UK house hero Terry Farley (whose Roach Motel alias with Pete Heller also got the BB treatment) hook up with Stretch Silvester for ‘Play House’, a ‘90s ghetto house homage to a sound that all now claim to love, but few played then’, so says the eminently quotable man himself. Plus this gets a remix from K’AlexiShelby, another Chi-town don, so this BB definitely takes more of a HOUSE route than the usual discofied fayre…. but that’s the thing with BB, it’s not your usual disco-edits, as Rich’s mix will show. His musical influences go from On-U-Sound parties as a teen and Drum Club while still at school to Wild Oats records and sound-design oddities now, so expect the most tuneful bank holiday hangover you’ve ever had!
Black Booby - BB-09 A Side

<googleplay:description>This month our guest is Black Booby.

Recently he made the news headlines when he DJ'd at an afterparty in an East London basement where Beyonce and Jay Z rocked up.
