You want to rip a dancefloor up as you move from minimal tribal to some banging techno or almost anywhere in between - then "Rockets" is the track to use. It' is a dance floor and club system destroyer that comes in with subsonic driving bass line and a gritty roar lead line that trips into itself at just the right moments. If you listen closely you can hear it talk!

A deeper but harder techno that hasn't been heard in a long time. All of these records are new (last 6 weeks of release date, July 4th, 2016) in this mix including a track which is a remix of a tune I feature in the original X "Disc two" from 2008. Back then people used to ask me how long I could keep playing vinyl and I told them flat out, "longer than you will be listening to dance music or have been listening to dance music". Once again, I'm right.

Here is a mix I did in 2002 that many people may remember from DI.FM days of old. I have recovered the mix from the original Minidisc and brought it into the computer and given it a quick remaster. Thus the "2014 Remaster" portion of the title. When this was originally recorded I didn't have the best set up in the world and was largely flat broke that summer so the recording was done on some primitive stuff (very very simple mixer which was starting to go at this point) and I made the mistake of recording through an effects processor. Strangely the results are kind of curious as it feels very much like a mix that could have been recorded live at an underground rave in Vancouver. Which isn't too far from reality because I put this mix together after playing a similar set in vancouver at a party a week or so before and with the exception of I think, one or two records in the middle of this mix which I pulled out to get it to fit on minidisc, its nearly identical to what I did play. enjoy

The Intimidation Blue mix board is rather unique. While some might feel that having the channels summed to mono rather than kept stereo is a limitation - it's designer felt that the board would be used mostly at mid to large scale rave events and clubs where most systems are actually running in mono in the first place to maximize sound pressure and efficiently use amplifiers. By putting the board into this configuration certain things like kill switches made more sense and actually worked. The kill switches themselves on the Blue are split between bass, mids and tops (treble) and can be engaged or disengaged without any noticeable "click", which was a problem for competitors who ripped off the design. For DJs, it was just fun to play on.

Recorded and released in early 2006, and part of the "Sci-Fi" series of mixes by DJ Lithium, it aired on DI.FM and quickly became a favorite in their forums by trance fans. This mix features several records from some great labels including Dark Noize and Discover who at the time were really banging out a steady stream of amazing tunes on 12".
DJ Lithium's programming skills are again on display here. Not one single track is out of place and they are all perfectly arranged, and mixed tightly. There is a transition to the third track in this mix that is incredibly challenging for example but it doesn't "sound like it". However it involves a lot of fast, fast fader and EQ manipulation and a deck stop that has to be EXACTLY perfect in order to work. DJ Lithium pulls it off. You can see and hear some of what this looks like in DJ Lithium's "TimeCode" headphone mix on youtube.

Recorded way back in the early months of 2002, this mix encompasses several tracks by artists who would then proceed to disappear. from the trance scene never to re-appear again. The dark days of trance were beginning, being thrown off its rails by "progressive" trance which a lot of times meant "going no where tracks" or as DJs commonly refer to them as "coasters". While a bit more downward focused emotionally this mix touches a lot of moods beyond the obvious. It is interesting that some of the labels featured in this mix would also quickly disappear and fade away, including Platipus Records. A favorite of DJ Lithium for years. The artist POB is featured on this mix and it may have been the last production he did before returning to the trance genre. Now in 2013 he has re-appeared with a track on Platipus which was recently resurrected. Perhaps to cash in on the EDM "boom", we don't know. But one thing for sure, they don't make em' like that now.

Sadly, DJ Lithium has lost a lot of respect (if not all) for Christopher Lawrence over the years as he and JOOF teamed up and went sideways into digital DJ land and incredibly misfortune experimental collaborations on tracks, forgetting who they were along the way. DJs.
Another demonstration or snap shot of trance during the dark years between 2002 and 2006 which some consider to be the best years of the trance genre, "The Return of the DeJi" is a classic mix through and through. This mix actually introduces several records to the trance world by producers who at the time were effectively unknown (listen to the first two tracks for a perfect example- those are by Sander Van Doorn). Today unfortunately some of those artists featured in this mix compilation are considered to have completely sold out, including Sander Van Doorn. Considering The Return of the DeJi was recorded in 2004, you can use it as a marker in trance history. From there you can see where things drifted. The Dutch "producer" DJ types grabbed the wheel and proceeded to steer the genre into oncoming traffic. By 2009 the damage was almost irreversible. Almost.
When it was released it was made freely available via DJ Lithium's own FTP and with in roughly 30 days had amassed a download total of over 68,000 copies. Shortly after the FTP collapsed and was never able to recover. This was in May of 2001. Do you know how much bandwidth cost back then? For that many files? About 10,000 dollars.
The mix aired on DI.FM (at that time known as DigitallyImported.com) and stayed in rotation on the station for almost 6 years. Considered by many to be one of the most influential trance mixes of the time released by an independent, it brought a lot of attention to DJ Lithium.
It is being released again here on MixCloud for everyone to check out who may not have been around at the time or were not into trance so they can understand where things were during this point in history.
If you want to know what trance really is and used to sound like then this is a really good place to start if you are new to the genre. Before certain dutch/euro DJs ruined the trance genre for their own personal gain, there were DJs like DJ Lithium and d.a.v.e:// who knew there was much more to trance than once could see on the surface and went a lot further to grab a hold of it and bring it together.
Galactica defines this for the year 2005. Which oddly is the same year DJ Lithium started working full time on the TV show "Battle Star Galactica" as VFX Consultant to the series.

Counter Weight was recorded using the Intimidation Apex Gold, a simple but effective, fully analogue, DJ mixer featuring only two channels and rotary volume knobs in place of line faders, (totally old school)) a cross fader and triple EQ on each channel plus gain. Being a fully analogue mix right from the vinyl on Technics SL1200’s, through the mixer, and direct to the CDR, the result is unique and really quite amazing! Unlike most of today’s digital tracks recorded through digital mixers, the recording came out wonderfully full of dynamic range, volume, warmth and soul! Counter Weight is as untouched as it possibly can be from the digital technology that seems to be drowning us, perhaps as a reminder of what we have all lost over the last couple of decades. <googleplay:description>Counter Weight was recorded using the Intimidation Apex Gold, a simple but effective, fully analogue, DJ mixer featuring only two channels and rotary volume knobs in place of line faders, (totally old school)) a cross fader and triple EQ on each channel plus gain.
DJ Lithium - "City of Angels"
Recorded January 24th, 2011
For those of you remember in the spring of 2001 I released an amazing and now classic trance mix entitled "When Angels Know Your Name". That mix did over 60,000 direct downloads from my FTP server in under 45 days and was on Di.FM in rotation for at least 4 years.
"City of Angels" is the 10 year anniversary mix to compliment it. Just like "When Angels Know Your Name", "City of Angels" like all of my mixed sets, is completely done using the original vinyl. No CD players, no computers, no BS. Just real DJing done right.
Enjoy!
You can find more mixes and information at www.djlithium.com or tune into the station (which has been running since 1998) at www.blacktigerrecordings.com/trance.pls
