**Description: **Back in 2006, I'd been starting to seriously collect funky Australian music to the point that I had prepared a DJ mix of all my favourites. Back then, there was minimal interest in Australian-produced rare groove, save from a few real headz who had been delving deep into local music. I wanted to be the first to release a DJ mix solely focussed on Australian rarities, and here it is.
**Length:** 1 Hour
**Description: ** Back in the late 90s and early 00s, The Hopetoun in Surry Hills used to host an aamzing experimental music night every sunday. The night was called Frigid, and it was hosted by a production duo known as Sub Bass Snarl. I had a mate who was cool with one of the guys, and they eventually agreed to let me play my first set there. I probably spent 2 solid months preparing and practicing this set. While it was early days for me DJ-wise, the set was meticulously planned, and I hope that comes out in the sound. The scracthes are a little rough in places, but I feel like it holds up pretty well. Fun story: right up until the last 10 mins, they hosts were very happy with me, but according to my mate, once I dropped Rob D and Blue Boy, they were out, and I never invited me back to play there again, despite a round of applaus from the crowd at the end! Yeah, they were kinda elitest dicks.
**Track Listing:**
1. Boards Of Canada vs OC - An Eagle On My Mind / Time's Up
2. DJ Krush - Endless Railway
3. DJ Shadow - Hardcore Hip-hop
4. Kruder & Dofmeister - Deep Shit intro
5. Kruder & Dofmeister - Deep Shit part 1
6. Quannum - Extravaganza (instrumental)
7. DJ Bombjack - Block Party Anthem
8. Digable Planets vs Runnaways - 9th Wonder / Pounds
I played there regularly alongside heavyweights including Gian Arpino, Tom Tutton and The Boogiemonster. **Description: **A slow, bitter, sad mix of rhythm and blues 45s for these lonely, self-isolating times. This mix is made up of the slower rhythm and blues and popcorn 45s in my collection, some of which are my absolute favourites in the genre, but which aren’t always upbeat enough for me to deliver on a dancefloor. There are some very rare singles in this mix, and all but one single used in this mix are original pressings, if that’s something that matters.
**Description: **Back in 2018 I was invited to DJ at the launch of the Archibald Prize exhibition at Goulburn Arts Centre. With a fairly open-ended brief that suggested disco for a cocktail party, I put this prepared mix together to open proceedings, before delving into more mainstream and commercial classic 70s and 80s disco and soul. This mix is almost all excellent edits of killer disco classics, with the occasional new disco funk cut. For me, this is a go-to opening set. As always, this was prepared with vinyl only.
**Length: **1 hr 20 mins
**Description: **So here it is... the long awaited second installment to my Aussie Funk Mix series. It's been ages since I printed up covers for 100 copies of my first Aussie Funk mix back in 2006. My aim with that mix was to put together the first ever DJ mix of exclusively Australasian funk, soul, jazz and rock. records. I wanted the mix to highlight my favourite Australian grooves, and for it to be well-mixed and presented. But in the end, the recording was a little rushed, meaning that not all of it flowed as I had envisaged. With this second installment, my original vision has reached fruition, albeit with a slightly different agenda. Between 2006 and now, I have discovered a whole heap of great Australian music, and this mix represents the gems of my excavating efforts. This mix is intended to be be a deeper journey into long lost Australian funk, soul, jazz, rock and disco, with an emphasis on records that are as amazing as they are rare! With the exception of some minor editing, this is essentially the product of two turntables, a DJ mixer and a fair amount of preparation! I hope you enjoy it.
