Biography
Nyameko Angelo Memka (DJ Angelo) born in Eastern Cape (South Africa) on the 29th of June 1986. Then moved to Johannesburg Soweto at a very tender age where he grew up. Started taking piano lessons while he was in primary school from his Grandfather who studied music in Germany and had immense experience as a choir conductor. His passion for music evolved from that point onwards.
Growing up in Soweto he got exposed to kwaito and house music which its popularity was getting higher in the late 90’s, whereby he started collecting tapes to feed the growing hunger inside. In 2002 he had an opportunity to move to the United Kingdom where he was exposed to a more global house scene and music which he got into collecting vinyl records leading him into DJing at small events.
While in the United Kingdom in the year 2007, he got an opportunity to be part of Slickmanagement DJ’s where they hosted boat cruise parties along London Embankment River Thames, playing alongside world renowned house music DJ’s / producers: Charles Webster, Zepharin Saint (Tribe Records), Mr Mama, Vinny Da Vinci & Manoo just to name a few. His experience playing for house heads further went into a broader circle playing at the S.T.U.P.I.D Underground gig and Ministry Of Sound Session in Birmingham UK in 2008.
Now returned to his homeland and currently based in Johannesburg his part of City Soul Addicts hosting sessions that brings a global house scene, feel and experience in the heart of Joburg City. With all the pro-claimed soulful addicts members their traceable musical prints could be found in the legendary event files of Slickmanagement London boat parties, Maftown 60s and Miami Winter Music Conference – and they have also played in various local and international clubs, including New York, London and Amsterdam.
Since his been part of the growing City Soul Addicts sessions his played alongside Andy Compton (The Rurals), Charles Webster, QB Smith, 2lani “The Warrior”, Sean McCabe(UK) just to name a few.
