The name ‘19’ may not mean much to the average person, but when Paul Hardcastle’s hit song '19' raged through the airwaves in 1985, it helped influence a young Japanese teenager and his love for all things electronic music. Out of that love, DJ 19 was born.

DJ 19 has become the one of most respected DJ/producers in Asia over the years due to his establishment of 19BOX RECORDINGS in 1999. After its founding, the label soon became a prominent independent record label supported by the world’s top international DJs like Sasha, John Digweed, Paul Van Dyk, Hernan Cattaneo, Dave Seaman, Anthony Pappa, Nick Warren and many others. As a proof of its success, 19BOX tracks have been featured on many famous compilations like Bedrock, Global Underground and Renaissance amongst others. In Japanese, the word ‘Nineteen’ is pronounced as ‘Juke’, making 19BOX(JUKEBOX) RECORDINGS an ideal name to reflect the label’s mission to release timeless dancefloor music for people wanting to hear it over and over again. 19BOX is also the proud parent of three sister labels. PARK LIMITED MUZIK focuses on techy sounds, while 19BOX LIMITED is used for more exclusive releases and 19BOX SPECIAL aims towards the domestic market with a focus on radio friendly vocal tunes.

As a DJ, 19’s sets draw from his vast and encyclopedic knowledge of music – a style of music he refers to as ‘Phuturefunk’. Although Tokyo is his home base, his DJing skills have graced the best clubs all over the world. DJ 19’s success has been proven through his output of releasing more than 20 MIX CDs that have been released throughout the globe over the last decade and a bit.

Using his Trancentral Station alias in 2000, DJ 19 received international acclaim as a music producer with his track “Mothership”. Since then, there have been many solo and co-productions on many labels, including his very own 19BOX imprint and its affiliated sub-labels. He has collaborated with fellow DJ/producers like Bryan Cox, Balthazar & JackRock, Ganga, Thomas Penton, Austin Leeds, Mousssa Clarke, Kriece, Bjorn Fogelberg, C-Jay, Steve May and Noel Sanger, as well as others. DJ 19 is also part of the Ambrozia project; a downtempo collaboration in between Edison (a father of Kaito) and Australian vocalist Julianne. Their tunes have been featured on many chillout and lounge compilations like ‘Real Ibiza’ and ‘Café Ibiza’. Together, they’ve already released 4 full length albums with more sure to be on the horizon. On top of all of that production work, DJ 19 also produces using the monikers ‘Valid Evidence’ for his Balearic sounds and ‘Hot Station’ for his Electro Hip Funk sounds. Of course he has also released full length albums using these aliases.
