Lusatia Opencast Mine Lake

by Stephan Marche

Last week I had a 7-day trip through Lusatia testing new equipment and gathering ambiences for upcoming documentaries.

The trip mainly took me along former opencast mines that now slowly turn into lakes. To me those lakes appear like oversized plasters that heal the wounds we have caused to mother nature.

The set features three snippets taken at Berzdorfer See in the early morning hours.
In order to regulate humidity and water levels along this lake the old principle of a Hydraulic Ram got reinvented. It is a huge underground water pump that works without the need for external energy supply which really impressed me. So this Ram relentlessly works day in and day out - emitting shifting patterns of metallic rhythms.
