Willie Graff splits his year between DJ residencies in New York and Ibiza (Pacha). In this second outing with studio partner Darren Eboli, the influence is, African, NY clubbing, World mixing Mediterranean and further afield. The duo finds its roots in the past, building a link between the soul of a song and the warmth of a melody then combining them with a contemporary sound.

The opener “All Is Bliss” sits at the pinnacle of the underground – A powerful, Balearic, disco influenced club track full of Spanish guitar, handclaps, club synths sounds like it was made for Dj Harvey’s “Mercury Rising” at Pikes in Ibiza.

In 2002, he created Headbangers Entertainment, through which he managed various artists including Cassius. A year later, Winter founded the label Ed Banger Records, a music division that first signed Mr. Flash with the release "Radar Rider", then signing Justice, followed by SebastiAn in 2004, and later Uffie, DJ Mehdi, Mr. Oizo and more. In 2008, he stopped managing Daft Punk to focus on his label and music career as Busy P.

For Phoenix's debut album, United, Winter performed on a Rapman synthesizer in the song "Funky Squaredance". His remix single of Fancy's "What's Your Name Again" was a club hit on its release. The music video for this was again created under the Ed Banger Records label.

Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the 1970s from the United States’ urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, horns, electric piano, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars.

Well-known disco artists include Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, the Bee Gees, Chic, KC and the Sunshine Band, Thelma Houston, Sister Sledge, The Trammps, the Village People and Michael Jackson. While performers and singers garnered public attention, record producers working behind the scenes played an important role in developing the genre. Films such as Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Thank God It's Friday (1978) contributed to disco's mainstream popularity.

Disco started as a mixture of music from venues popular with African Americans, Hispanic and Latino Americans, Italian Americans, and LGBT people in Philadelphia and New York City during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Disco can be seen as a reaction by the 1960's counterculture to both the dominance of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music at the time. Several dance styles were developed during the period of disco's popularity in the United States, including “the Bump” and “the Hustle”.

By the late 1970s, most major U.S. cities had thriving disco club scenes, and DJs would mix dance records at clubs such as Studio 54 in New York City, a venue popular among celebrities. Discothèque-goers often wore expensive, extravagant and sexy fashions. There was also a thriving drug subculture in the disco scene, particularly for drugs that would enhance the experience of dancing to the loud music and the flashing lights, such as cocaine and Quaaludes, the latter being so common in disco subculture that they were nicknamed "disco biscuits". Disco is a genre of dance music and a subculture that emerged in the 1970s from the United States’ urban nightlife scene. Its sound is typified by four-on-the-floor beats, syncopated basslines, string sections, horns, electric piano, synthesizers, and electric rhythm guitars.

Well-known disco artists include Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, the Bee Gees, Chic, KC and the Sunshine Band, Thelma Houston, Sister Sledge, The Trammps, the Village People and Michael Jackson. While performers and singers garnered public attention, record producers working behind the scenes played an important role in developing the genre. By the late 1970s, most major U.S. cities had thriving disco club scenes, and DJs would mix dance records at clubs such as Studio 54 in New York City, a venue popular among celebrities. Discothèque-goers often wore expensive, extravagant and sexy fashions. There was also a thriving drug subculture in the disco scene, particularly for drugs that would enhance the experience of dancing to the loud music and the flashing lights, such as cocaine and Quaaludes, the latter being so common in disco subculture that they were nicknamed "disco biscuits". Musikalische Entwicklung
Pelham ist der Sohn des US-amerikanischen Bluesmusikers Moe Pelham Sr. und einer deutschen Versicherungskauffrau. Mit 12 Jahren kam er während eines Urlaubs in den USA erstmals mit Rap in Berührung. In seiner Schulzeit mixte und verkaufte Pelham Mixtapes unter dem Namen Pelham Power Tapes. Seine erste kommerzielle Veröffentlichung war die Single Twilight Zone, der 1989 das Soloalbum Raining Rhymes folgte. Produzenten waren Michael Münzing und Luca Anzilotti.

Im Jahr 1993 bildete er zusammen mit Thomas Hofmann die Hip-Hop-Formation Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt. Vom 1994 veröffentlichten Debütalbum Direkt aus Rödelheim wurden über 250.000 Platten verkauft. Kurz darauf arbeitete er als Produzent mit Sabrina Setlur, die zunächst noch unter dem Namen Schwester S veröffentlichte. Später erschien unter dem neu gegründeten Label pelham power productions (3p) die erste Single unter ihrem tatsächlichen Namen Sabrina Setlur, die mit Du liebst mich nicht einen Nummer-1-Hit hatte.

Nachdem sich das Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt aufgelöst hatte, veröffentlichte Moses Pelham 1998 sein erstes Soloalbum Geteiltes Leid 1. 1999 wurde Pelham zum Produzenten des Jahres (1998) gekürt. Geteiltes Leid 2 folgte im Jahr 2004, Geteiltes Leid 3 2012.

Ebenfalls auf Pelhams Label veröffentlichte der Soulsänger Xavier Naidoo. Für ihn produzierte Pelham das Erfolgsalbum Nicht von dieser Welt. Bald darauf trennten sie sich jedoch im Streit und lieferten sich einen jahrelangen Rechtsstreit um Verwertungsrechte, der erst vom Oberlandesgericht Karlsruhe zugunsten von Xavier Naidoo entschieden wurde mit der Begründung, sein Vertrag enthalte sittenwidrige Bestandteile. Die von der Plattenfirma beantragte Revision wurde vor dem Bundesgerichtshof 2004 abgewiesen.

In der Zwischenzeit konzentrierte Pelham sich hauptsächlich auf die Produktion von Künstlern wie Glashaus, UnterWortverdacht, Illmatic, Sabrina Setlur und Sebastian Hämer. Moses Pelham moderierte zudem bis Mitte 2008 gemeinsam mit Bayz Benzon jeden Sonntagabend die Radiosendung Nachtschicht auf dem hessischen Jugendradiosender planet more music radio.

Im November 2012 erschien sein neues Album Geteiltes Leid 3, das es bis in die Top-10 der deutschen Album-Charts schaffte. Im gleichen Jahr war er Jurymitglied der Castingshow X Factor.

Im April 2017 erschien das Album „Kraft“ seiner Band GLASHAUS, die er mit Cassandra Steen und Martin Haas bildet. Vom 23. Mai bis zum 11. Juli war Moses Pelham Teilnehmer der vierten Staffel der Sendung Sing meinen Song – Das Tauschkonzert. Im August 2017 folgte das Release seines Soloalbums „Herz“, das auf Position 2 der offiziellen deutschen Charts debütierte.

Pelhams Unternehmen 3p hat mehr als neun Millionen Tonträger verkauft. Ihm wurden 13 Gold-, sechs Platin-, drei Dreifach-Gold- und zwei Doppel-Platin-Edelmetallauszeichnungen verliehen. Honeyroot is an ambient dance collaboration between Glenn Gregory and Keith Lowndes, signed to the independent record label Just Music.

The project had its origins in the 1997 album, Skyscraping, by ABC. As ABC was essentially Martin Fry, after the departure of founding member Mark White, Lowndes and fellow Sheffield native Gregory of Heaven 17, were brought in for co-songwriting duties on the album.

Lowndes and Gregory's first album, Sound Echo Location, was released in the UK and Australia in 2003 and in the US in 2004.[1]

Honeyroot reached the UK Singles Chart in May 2005 with their ambient cover version of the Joy Division song, "Love Will Tear Us Apart", which also appeared in the Scottish film, Red Road. 2006 saw an online only release entitled "EP1".

The Sun Will Come (2007) featured two singles, the double A-sided, "Nobody Loves You (The Way I Do)" b/w "Heavy Drops" and "Where I Belong". Kershaw came to prominence in 1984 as a solo artist. He released eight singles that entered the Top 40 charts in the UK during the decade, including "Wouldn't It Be Good", "Dancing Girls", "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", "Human Racing", "The Riddle", "Wide Boy", "Don Quixote" and "When a Heart Beats". His 62 weeks on the UK Singles Chart through 1984 and 1985 beat all other solo artists. Kershaw appeared at the dual-venue concert Live Aid in 1985 and has also penned a number of hits for other artists, including a UK No. 1 single in 1991 for Chesney Hawkes, "The One and Only".

Kershaw was unemployed for a year after leaving Fusion, but during this time he found manager Mickey Modern after placing an advertisement in the magazine Melody Maker. Modern secured a record deal for Kershaw at MCA.[7] In September 1983, Kershaw released his first single "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", which reached No. 47 in the UK Singles Chart. It became a major hit in Scandinavia, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

At the beginning of 1984 Kershaw released his breakthrough song "Wouldn't It Be Good",[5] which reached No. 4 in the UK, and was a big success in Europe, particularly in Ireland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Scandinavia, and also in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The music video, featuring Kershaw as a chroma key-suited alien, received heavy rotation from MTV, helping the song to reach No. 46 in the United States. He enjoyed three more Top 20 hits from his debut solo album Human Racing, including the title track and a successful re-issue of "I Won't Let the Sun Go Down on Me". This track ultimately proved his biggest hit as a performer when it reached No. 2 in the UK.

Weatherall added vocal samples from the US soul group The Emotions, a drum loop from an Italian bootleg of Edie Brickell's song What I Am, alongside snatches of other Primal Scream songs, and frontman Bobby Gillespie singing a line from Robert Johnson's Terraplane Blues.

Gillespie saw Loaded as being part of the Jamaican tradition of dub records, where songs are deconstructed at the mixing desk, adding new elements and desecrating existing ones.

It propelled the rock band onto the dance floor, and kick-started their career.

"I think it's time to stop saying 'this is a dance record' and 'this is a rock record,'" said Gillespie at the time. "If you can play music, you can do whatever you want. Just use your imagination."

The success of Loaded led to Weatherall being recruited for the whole of Screamadelica, establishing him as one of the UK's most in-demand producers.

While remixing acts like St Etienne, Beth Orton and My Bloody Valentine, he also held down a DJ slot on London's Kiss FM and ran two club nights in London.

However, he never became a household name like his contemporaries Paul Oakenfold and Fatboy Slim - a career move that was entirely deliberate.

"That sort of carry-on was never for me," he told the Independent in 2016. "It's a lot of work, once you go up that slippery showbiz pole, and it would keep me away from what I like, which is making things."

Instead, he carved out a career on the cutting edge of techno, with projects including Sabres of Paradise and Two Lone Swordsmen.

'Titan of music'
In 2017, he explained the lure of the dancefloor in an interview with Uncut magazine.

"It's the enduring appeal of transcendent experience, which has been with us for 200,000 years. A room, coloured lights, smoke and music? Over to you, Roman Catholics. There are ancient Greek rituals involving herbal drugs to achieve transcendence.

"People were having transcendent experiences in 1940s dancehalls, dancing to a big band; now we do it with drum machines and electronic technology - it's the same concept. Humanity hasn't changed for 100,000 years, but our technology has."

Musicians paying tribute to Weatherall included Ride guitarist and former Oasis bassist Andy Bell, who described him as "absolute titan of music".

BBC 6 Music DJ Gilles Peterson said it was "hard to put into words" the "influence and impact he has had has had on UK culture."

Hacienda DJ and author Dave Haslam tweeted he was "one of the greatest, sweetest, funniest guys I've ever met".

Weiss and Fagenson were childhood friends who grew up together in suburban Detroit. Partly due to Fagenson's poverty they decided to form Was (Not Was) in 1979. The name of the band was derived from Fagenson's then-infant son Tony, who was just beginning to talk and enjoyed contradicting words such as "Blue" with "Not Blue". Their first recording was "Wheel Me Out", a 12-inch dance record for the avant-garde ZE Records. David's mother Elizabeth Elkin Weiss, a noted actress and radio pioneer in their native Detroit, provided the outré vocals. The track was later included on the 2000 compilation album Disco Not Disco.

Their first album Was (Not Was) (1981) was an amalgam of rock, disco, Weiss's beat poetry, Reagan-era political-social commentary, and jazz. On vocals they recruited Harry Bowens and "Sweet Pea" Atkinson, who proved to be distinctive, soulful front men who frequently found themselves singing absurdist and satirical songs alongside tender ballads. The MC5's Wayne Kramer, The Knack's Doug Fieger, and Mingus trumpeter Marcus Belgrave were among the guest players.

In 1982, the group played on Don't Walk Away, a solo album for lead singer "Sweet Pea" Atkinson.

The eclectic Born to Laugh at Tornadoes (1983) had even more guest musicians, including Ozzy Osbourne rapping over electro, Mitch Ryder belting out a techno-rockabilly number, Mel Tormé crooning an odd ballad about asphyxiation, and an abstract funk piece called "Man vs. the Empire Brain Building". Singer Donald Ray Mitchell joined the group as third lead vocalist.

In 1988, they found their biggest hit with the album What Up, Dog?, which featured the singles "Walk the Dinosaur"[2] and "Spy in the House of Love". Special guests included Stevie Salas, John Patitucci, Frank Sinatra, Jr., and a writing credit for Elvis Costello. Artist/animator Christoph Simon created videos to accompany some of their songs, such as "What Up Dog?", "Dad I'm in Jail", and the Tom Waits-style "Earth to Doris". The videos appeared on MTV's Liquid Television and in various film festivals, including the Spike & Mike festival. About this time, the Was Brothers developed separate careers as producers, film scorers, and music supervisors.

The group followed up with Are You Okay? in 1990, spearheaded by a cover of "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone". Guest musicians included Iggy Pop, Leonard Cohen, The Roches, and Syd Straw. After a tour with Dire Straits in 1992 and a UK Top 5 single with "Shake Your Head" (vocals from Ozzy Osbourne and Kim Basinger), Weiss and Fagenson drifted apart and nothing was heard from the band but for a compilation album Hello Dad... I'm in Jail. Some members, however, did appear on Don's Orquestra Was project Forever Is a Long Long Time (1997), which re-interpreted Hank Williams in a jazz/R&B vein.

In late 2004, Was (Not Was) reformed and were back on stage for a two-month club tour through US (including stops at the House of Blues in Cleveland and Chicago and the Trocadero in Philadelphia). In October 2005, they played four gigs at the Jazz Café in London.

In 2008, they released their fifth studio album Boo!, featuring guest appearances from Kris Kristofferson, Wayne Kramer, Marcus Miller and Booker T. Jones, plus a song originally co-written with Bob Dylan nearly 20 years earlier.

Writing in Detroit's Metro Times, Brian J. Bowe described the band as "an endearing mess....a sausage factory of funk, rock, jazz and electronic dance music, all providing a boogie-down backdrop for a radical (and witty) political message of unbridled personal freedom and skepticism of authority."[3] On April 22, 2008, they performed on the British show Later... with Jools Holland, and on May 2, they were the musical guest on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
