A team of selected medical workers in Moroto district have cried out loud about the difficulties they are getting when it comes to dealing with youths in their various communities.

This was revealed by health workers from selected health facilities in a meeting organized by the Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum (UYAHF) ,to build their capacity on counseling communication skills and provision of quality Adolescent and sexual reproductive Health services.

In most of the health facilities there is limited staffing of counselors, lack of youth corner services in addition to shortage of some of the important medical stores such condoms, contraceptives, training equipment like comic books among others.
During the one day training, these medical workers explained the different challenges they are facing which includes the fear of the locals, limited working space.

Uganda Youth and Adolescents Health Forum (UYAHF) is a youth led organization operating in Moroto and focusing on raising awareness to adolescent girls and young women on their right to sexual reproductive health, build demand and enhance uptake for quality Sexual Reproductive Health services.

The Minister of Education, Ms Janet Museveni, has asked all institutions of learning to implement sexual harassment guidelines to make schools safe for learners.

In a speech read by the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Jacob Oulanyah, at Makerere University yesterday, Ms Museveni said sexual harassment and abuse cases in education institutions affects productivity of learners.

According to Ms Museveni, the Employment Act stipulates that an employer with more than 25 employees must implement a written policy against sexual harassment that includes a notice to all employees that sexual harassment is illegal.

At the dissemination exercise held under the theme, ‘kicking sexual harassment out of higher education institutions’, Makerere University researchers admitted that the vice is still common despite management establishing policies and systems to fight it.

Prof Grace Bantebya from Makerere University School of Women and Gender Studies, said research conducted last year indicated that more than 55 per cent of female students and staff had experienced at least one form of sexual harassment.

She said 91 per cent of female students and 80 per cent of female staff are victims of sexual harassment acts that have never been reported.

Renowned city lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde has advised law students that they do not need to study the bar course at the Law Development Centre, to become successful legal practitioners and activists.

Ssemakadde made the remarks during a talk to Makerere University School of Law students of Clinical Legal Education on October 8, 2021. He said LDC exists because of the law but is no longer relevant.

Challenged by the undergraduate students that they wouldn’t be able to practice without going through LDC, Ssemakadde said they should follow Male Mabirizi’s example. Mabirizi, a controversial lawyer, has not done the bar course.

Ssemakadde wondered why LDC is not just an examining body, like the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) or Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB), that only test candidates, but do not teach.

The Law Development Centre was set up by an Act of Parliament in August 1970. Before then, most of the lawyers in the country had trained in Britain, under the pupilage system (a mentorship program which qualifies one to practice the law independently).

Fighting has resumed in northern Ethiopia's Afar region after a month-long calm, humanitarian and rebel sources told AFP Wednesday, as the government appeared to be pressing a new offensive.

There were reports of an armed clash Tuesday in the town of Awra, in Afar's Fenti zone, including use of heavy weapons by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) that killed multiple civilians, the humanitarian sources said.

The reports could not be independently verified and officials in Afar could not be reached for comment. TPLF spokesman Getachew Reda denied claims the rebels had used heavy weapons against civilians but confirmed there had been fresh hostilities in Afar.

For nearly a week humanitarian and rebel sources have been reporting signs of a government offensive that could potentially mark a new phase of the 11-month-old war in northern Ethiopia.

At least 2 of every 10 women attending antenatal care services in Moroto district are young people between the age of 10 to 24 years as revealed by the District Biostatician in a dialogue meeting organized by Uganda Youth and Adolescent Health forum-UYAHF on 15th October 2021.

This meeting followed a one day young mothers forum organized in three different health centers within the district to discover the challenges and possible way forwards that young mothers and teenagers are facing in attempts to accessing sexual reproductive health services.

The teenagers in their presentation to the stakeholders at the meeting attributed the poor accessibility of such services to the long distances to the health facilities, peer pressure, rudeness of some health workers and bad cultural practices.

Sandra Ayela, a peer educator Barza village Moroto Municipality says most parents tend to react harshly when their children, most especially the girls get involved in a relationship and get pregnant. She asserts that such reactions pose a lot of fear to the girls who end up aborting or running away from home.

Meanwhile, Claire grace of UYAHF says they do dialogue with young mothers and health workers to come up with interventions that may attract young people to access correct information to guide them during pregnancy.

She said unlike other parts of the country, causes of early pregnancy in Karamoja is due to forced marriages, rape and defilement which according to her needs to be addressed through informing the girls about the referral pathways to keep them safe.

Dr. Hans Lokale, the DHO Moroto said the long distances to the health facilities is due to the shifting nature of the karimojong and that this problem can only be solved by acquiring more mobile clinics.



Girls should not be denied access to mobiles phones but should be empowered on how to appropriately use them so as to close the digital gap. It is a suggestion by Kampala-based girls, Pauline Nakanwagi and Sumaya Nanyanzi.
While 16-year old Pauline Nakanwagi agrees to the fact that some of the digital devices are exposing the girls to pornography, she says if well used, they can help the girls to empower themselves with information.

She says some girls have fallen victims of defilement, teenage pregnancies and generally early sexual debut because boys and men promise them gifts in form mobile phones.

As education systems worldwide transitioned to virtual or distance learning, a daunting digital divide has become apparent, affecting the most vulnerable and marginalized students especially girls.

Speaking at Kololo where the event was held, Dr. Munir Safieldi, UNICEF Representative in Uganda said the world must ensure that girls, especially in developing countries, can reap the benefits of the technological revolution that has reshaped the life of every human being.



Government has said more than one million people staying in mountainous areas and those bordering water bodies and landing sites have been affected by the ongoing floods and heavy rain.

Addressing journalists at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala yesterday, the State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Ms Esther Anyakun, said the most affected districts are Kayunga, Kasese, Bududa, Kayunga, Nakasongola, Ntoroko, Sironko, and Butaleja, among others.

Seventeen people in western districts of Kisoro (seven), Rubanda (three), and Kanungu (two) and in northern’s Alebtong (five) have also lost their lives as a result of lightning strikes. A number of schools, roads, bridges and health facilities worth more than Shs200 billion have also been washed away or submerged.

Ms Anyakun said most communities at the shores of lakes Victoria, Kyoga and Albert have been greatly affected due to an increase in water levels. According to her, 22 of 25 landing sites in Nakasongola have been affected with 1,762 people displaced.

Unlike last year where government resettled people who were hit by the landslides in Elgon region in Kiryadongo, government this time plans to identify land within the affected districts to settle the victims.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit the East African powerhouse hard, leading to the contraction of the economy and hundreds of thousands of job losses.

Kenyatta announced the decision to lift the dusk-to-dawn curfew to cheers and applause at an event to mark Mashujaa Day, a public holiday to honor those who contributed to the country's independence struggle.

Kenya has reported 252,199 cases of Covid-19 and 5,233 deaths but inoculation rates remain low, with only 4.6 percent of the adult population fully vaccinated, according to latest government figures.

Day one, it was as brief as a cock, we thought it was tiresome day of the wedding.... Secondly, we failed again and she started to blaming me for not loving her or cheating on her.
So we visited the doctors but still nothing much worked for us though I can manage briefly, but am not convinced that my wife is ok with it though she fakes an orgasm.
I can't go looking for other girls to try again coz am already married

Am 31-year old banker stay in teso, for the 7years in my marriage we have been visting couples because i wanted to maintain the work place and home. I then decided that my wife stays taking care of the family as i win the bread, she as well was doing some retail bussiness to keep the small budget moving.
We rapidly got 4 children twins among them and all was well unttill we started picking up fights like any other family may be going through the same but i was surprise about what the woman said "you think you are also a man"
Having fully married, i wondered why she would say that so i took time one day and took my children for the DNA test without her knowledge and all turned negative for me.
Am currently confuse and didn't open up to my wife yet.

Dr. Hans Lokales, the district health officer Moroto attributed the high teenage pregnancy rates to the bad cultural practices, poverty and the prolonged lockdown which has kept children out of school. He also said that due to this, Moroto district is in a red flag zone as the ministry of health cut off point of pregnancy is 10%.

While addressing the youth leaders, Dr. Hans called for collective work to restrain the practice such as reactivating of youth corners in at least each parish, involving the youth in community based services, educating the teenagers about the dangers of early sex among others.
Meanwhile, Joyce Nakato the Programs manager UYAHF, said that the organization has come to enhance gender equality, promote sexual reproductive health and rights, empowerment of women and girls and promotion of livelihoods through skills development in Moroto district.

According to the report, the number of pregnant teenagers in the district has been increasing during the lockdown periods as compared to when students were at school and that only 13% go through the antenatal care processes until birth.

A 10-year-old girl is battling for her life at Lira Regional Referral Hospital where she was admitted on July 18 after reportedly being tortured by her father and stepmother.

Juliet Akello was allegedly locked up in a poultry house for several days and denied access to food and water. The incident took place in Oyito-leyi Village, Aboke Sub-county in Kole District.

Since her admission to the hospital, the child has remained unconscious. Morris Akona, the child’s caretaker, said she is improving. The epileptic child, who lost her mother in 2014, was allegedly locked up in the poultry house by his father, Mr. Tom Anyati. Akello’s life is reported to have worsened after her father brought in a new wife.

The father and stepmother allegedly tied both the child’s legs and hands around the pillars of the house, which she shared with ducks, rabbits and chickens.

The chairperson of Oyito-leyi Village, Mr. Douglas Omara, told Daily Monitor on Tuesday that the parents decided to lock up the sick child in the house because they thought that her epileptic condition was contagious and would spread to the children of the stepmother.

Residents in Amuru district have vandalised a tourism site, Buffalo Camp owned by former Aruu South MP Samuel Odonga Otto. Buffalo Camp. Close to 150 residents stormed the camp found in Amuru town council on Tuesday this week and uprooted 500 concrete pillars used to erect the fence, pulled down the chain link and vandalized a generator and several solar panel stands and also injured a causal labourer.

It came almost a month after rwot Justine Ocitti Binyi, the chief of Pagak clan raised complaints about the alleged illegal activities perpetrated by Otto on the land hosting the hot spring, saying it diminishes the core value of the cultural heritage site. In his statement at Amuru Central police station recorded vide GEF 10/2021; the cultural leader accused the legislator of interfering with the site, which was obtained illegally.

However, Otto counter accuses the Pagak clan leader of sabotage explaining that he acquired the 10-acre piece of land in 2020 and duly compensated the land owners before commencing construction work at the site. Otto further accuses Rwot Binyi of inciting violence and masterminding the destruction on his property.

He further blames the RDC and the district police commander for not responding in time to restrain the attackers. But Geoffrey Oceng Osborn, the Amuru Rdc said early in July that he convened two different mediation meetings between the aggrieved Pagak clan leaders, their subjects and Otto to try and reach a consensus.

David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region police spokesperson revealed that a case of criminal trespass, robbery and malicious damage to property was reported by Dickson Olweny, one of the workers at the site vide Amuru CRB: 385/2021 and as of Wednesday, only one suspect whose name has been concealed had been arrested to aid police investigations.

Am in a relationship which was moving on very well untill early last year when things started turning bitter for me.
All started well but the interference came when my parents told me to make sure my husband arrange and marry me traditionally as we were already staying together ( now 4yrs) with 1kid. I told Ivan and he immediately started to look for resources to have the marriage completed early this year.
But for the past one year the communication with him has been a problem, actually poor and he gets pissed off easily, showers me with alot of insults....(even saying my parents are poor), he is also too controlling( not even allowing me to do what I want to do) and the worst part which always tear me into pieces is when start quarrelling he compares me with the ex gf saying she use not to be like me.
As I talk, we are now two days not communicating to each other.......
Please help me deal with this situation.
