Songs are a mix of solo work with all instruments played by myself, plus my own world weary vocals! I tend to favour my home made Telecasters and a Strat, though the odd acoustic makes an appearance. I use Logic Pro X and am a recent convert to DAW.
I play and write for the joy of expression and always with the hope my songs may be a positive force to anyone who takes time to listen. I'm an old boy now,so I harbour no dreams of success in the conventional sense, having the odd comment is just fine for me. Thanks to all who bother.
Also earlier songs from a project a year ago, with Fiona and Martin Magill,Vocals and keys. Martin is a very talented working keyboard player, but sadly Fiona no longer sings. Our loss.</itunes:summary>

Ya know what it's like with music and those who sit in judgement. It all has parallels in life.
In my case,I'm not laying claim to being the next 'anybody',I'm merely letting out what comes from within. That'll be my take on everything I've heard and all that's gone before...t'ain't reinventing the round thang.

Perhaps this song is encouragement to all the folk who feel dispirited by those who listen, then dismiss it as 'heard it all before'. Well,at least they 'listened!

Play what's inya folks,it's all good and no one does music like you do,so be the best YOU there is and for those expecting you to be what you are not, just tell them.. I'm not the man/woman for you. :)

I'm not the man for you
I like the old, tried ,tested and true

I'm not out to bring anything new
I play just what I feel
What I've heard is what I do
I won't reinvent the wheel

I'm not the man for you
I like the old, tried ,tested and true

I'll never be mister innovation
You won't be amazed at my skill
I'm not into social agitation
Three chords are my biggest thrill

I'm not the man for you
I like the old, tried ,tested and true

I don't feel the need to push the limits
I couldn't,if I tried
I don't write songs to please the critics
I don't need to be ratified

A song dealing with the subject of technology addiction and the changing facets of social interaction, which can leave some feeling alienated.
The chord structure and lyrics are from lyric writer Katie Wilson,my job was to flesh it out and make it a song.

One ring to rule them all,precious....

Nobody knows the way home
Nobody knows the way to go home
Everyone lives on their phone
But everyone still feels alone

Everybody's lost,nobody's found
We all end up in the ground
Gotta find some way to vent my rage
I'm gonna post it up on my Facebook page

Who are you calling
Is there anyone there
Or is it all in your head

Hey,what's this road we are on
I'm trying to find my way to what used to be home
I'm lost in a deep technology fog
Now I find the tail wags the dog

Who are you calling
Is there anyone there
Or is it all in your head

Covered by Davy Vance, just because it's a fine song.

She came out of the mist and the snow was falling down
Walking 'long the rails on the west side of town
A scarf around her shoulders and ice upon her shawl
It was ten degrees colder than I ever could recall

She came into the tavern and shook the snow from her shoes
Stood by the fire and asked if we had heard the news
There were soldiers from afar marching forth to war
It was ten degrees colder than I ever could recall

I rushed into the street but the sound of marching men
And the blizzard and the ice drove me back inside again
Old Joe behind the bar was loading his cap and ball
It was ten degrees colder than I ever could recall

Billy had a shotgun, Little Jimmy had a knife
The girl from the west had been somebody's wife
We were widows and orphans and old men one and all
It was ten degrees colder than I ever could recall

They didn't speak our language they used lead and fire instead
When the tavern was ablaze into the winter we fled
I helped those I could but I saw some good men fall
It was ten degrees colder than I ever could recall

Written in loving memory of my mother Elizabeth Vance on the 50th anniversary of her death on Thursday 27th July 1967,aged 44,a week after my 12th birthday.

Both my sister Yvonne and myself have carried the hurt and seeming injustice of a mother's absence at all times, but especially the usual key family moments in life, she'd have been an epic grandmother and I may have been a better person.

The 1960s were a great time for music, with some enduring classics from 1967 in particular. It was an exciting and new era. I have attempted to infuse a little of the sound of the 60s,with the use of a 12 string electric (The Byrds) to finally give vent to the feelings of a 12 year old boy, mixed with the 62 year old,as I am now.

Lyrically,it was hard going and I don't mind admitting the vocals took more than one attempt due to losing sight of the page! I'm glad I did it and I'm glad it's done.

For Yvonne and myself and for those robbed of ever knowing a special lady.

I always thought they'd fix you
Smart people find a cure
I knew you would never leave
I was completely sure

Bad things don't happen children
Folk reap what they sow
Welcome to the real world
So little did I know

I miss your laugh and presence
The calming of my fears
I've missed you every single day
Of the last fifty years

The fairytale ended
Dreams,they turned to dust
I closed down my affections
The betrayal took my trust

I miss your laugh and presence
The calming of my fears
I've missed you every single day
Of the last fifty years

I placed my faith in anger
Placed my back against the wall
I built sure,strong defences
I built them wide and tall

I always think,if I get close
To anyone at all
They'll be taken from me
Best not to get involved

I miss your laugh and presence
Our loss.

Our loss.

The wind blows,the doors close
Barred from the life within
Exclusion bites hard as the cold
Poor choice and no voice
The pills dull the hopelessness
Yet I know I'm losing my hold
Honours and flowers
Soft toys and tributes
You love me more now
Now that I'm gone
A shrine to the fallen
A moment of sadness
Before the world moves along
Shivering,invisible
A shadow in the dark
Only seen when I'm in the way
Think of me when passing by
Love the unlovable
Society's wounded and strays

I come from a background of playing in original bands and latterly just plain old 'pay the bills' working bands'. I packed in the live stuff a couple of years ago and just record my own music now.
Our loss.

I come from a background of playing in original bands and latterly just plain old 'pay the bills' working bands'. I packed in the live stuff a couple of years ago and just record my own music now.
Our loss.
