At 1:23 in the morning, Reactor 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded. In a single moment, thousands of lives were changed forever.

Just a few kilometers away, the city of Pripyat woke to what felt like an ordinary day. Families went to work, children played outside, and no one knew the danger drifting silently through the air.

36 hours later, everything stopped. Residents were told to pack one suitcase, board a bus, and leave their homes behind. Many believed they would return in a few days. They never did.

What has always stayed with me is the quiet heartbreak of that moment, especially for the children whose lives were divided into a before and an after without warning.

This musical chant is dedicated to them, the children of Pripyat in 1986.

May their stories continue to be remembered.
