Continuing my blogcast series focusing on my biggest influences from the world of production and DJing, we take things harder in episide 4 with the godfather of breakcore, ALEC EMPIRE!!!
My first introduction to Alec Empire's work was courtesy of John Peel in the early 90's on BBC Radio 1. He would often pick out some of the craziest music from the world of electronic music I'd ever heard, and Alec Empire's tracks often came up, alongside the other releases on Digital Hardcore Records (Alec's label). Later on as I got further into DJing, I found out that many of my favourite tracks on DJ Easygrooves tapes were Alec's tunes.
A few years later I purchased The Destroyer, to this day my favourite breakcore album. I listened to it over and over, and a few years later breakcore really took hold here in the UK. Through events like BANG FACE, my love of breakcore over the last 20 years has been set, and it all begins with Alec Empire. It's an honour to showcase his material in this episode.
