Sometimes, it's refreshing to revert to some straight up soul sampling vibes, and who better than the French & Australian combo of Khryo & Kaligraph E to deliver this?

Khryo was recently listed by The Find Mag as one of the emerging beatmakers to look out for, while Melbourne-based Kaligraph E is no newbie to this game, having a few prolific releases to his name.

Geography plays little significance between these two, as they share similar schools of thought towards the craft of sampling, and 'Elixir' is a strong example of their collaboration and mutual respect. Nothing sounds contrived in this EP, and an organic exchange of chops, flips, drums and sounds integral to the overall architecture is evident. "Communication through the core elements of each beat", as Kaligraph E describes it, and 'Elixir' is a distillation of the duo's individual styles and idiosyncrasies. It's the kind of beat tape that cuts to the case and truly represents the art of the chop.

The latest offering of our Singles' series is from DTW label darling Maxx Mortimer. Hailing from New Zealand, he is an artist whose credentials run deep, having spent over 12 years honing his craft and paying his dues.
He is one of those rare producers who can match his production skills with his abilities on the decks. 'Best Things' speaks for itself, a discerning banger with solid production that has gotten the attention from the likes of Roska, who recently played "Don't Hesitate" on his Rinse FM radio show.
His creative focus on the fundamentals of low frequencies, and bass, is incredibly strategic, and emotive - an effective blend which he has mastered in his craft. Bon appetit.

“After Ours” is ethereal, dreamy and slightly electrifying – he maintains his composure a like stillness in the dark – it is calm, and sometimes unsettling. Tracks like “After Hours” and “Last Call”, which border on the indie, post-rock scape, are incredibly emotive, and also demonstrate his ingenuity in his craft. “Medusa” and “Nobody Knows” takes on a more conventional approach in easy melodics and beats.
Samuel Truth has stated Hudson Mohawke, Tnght, George Benson, Steve Vai, and Black Hippy as his influences – it is clear from his potency, that he is on his way of the path of his great idols.

We are all accustomed to that feeling.

With affiliations to labels like Rotating Souls and Modern Filth, you know the pedigree of Chris Neal aka Frankfurt Funk. As with most of our A&R, we stumbled upon his soundcloud account by chance a few months ago, and was immediately drawn to his raw gritty boogie-funk feel. Very much in line with the sounds of People's Potential Unlimited and the like, we know this guy is serious about his craft. Professa has been with us right from the early days, and although this man's output has not been as prolific as some of his other DTW counterparts, he has been quietly working away on shaping his sounds, constantly elevating his craft and we had to convince him that it's time the world needs a formal introduction into his universe.
His remix of Lloyd's 'Get It Shawty' has been one of our recent favourites at the HQ, and we felt it was high time to share this baby. Professa turns the original track into a smooth 65 bpm number which sets it off in different trajectory. In fact, this remix is a breath of fresh air, amongst the current flux of slo-mo R&B remixes, where ripping acapellas and layering a rather languid beat seems to be the most convenient method for many.
Professa clearly stays in his own path, with warm synth basslines, crisp snares and kicks. He layers the vocal components with a certain precision and achieves a lush yet sparse-like quality with his arrangements. Work has started on a new debut DTW Ep, and we await with much anticipation what's to come from this humble and talented being.

Our favourite ramen supremo Go Yama returns once again with a smoking single, after a recent trip and showcase in Singapore that provided various shades of inspiration for him.
