We got the bookings made, invited some pros to join in, and shipped a whole lot of equipment over in a 40-foot container from Hamburg to Auckland, to eventually land in the middle of a beautiful forest. The first OFF THE RADAR festival took place from the 31st of January till the 2nd of February 2014 in the middle of nowhere, an hour and a half north of Auckland. We kept it nice and old school with generator-supplied power, multiple weeks of crew camping and next to no budget, with industry sponsorship being ruled out from the very beginning. It was a lot of work, but then something happened. It all came together! And the end result? A bunch of awesome artists and crew, an amazing audience, and an empty treasury! But, the feedback was so overwhelming that we got the call to do it again. So here we are, doing it again! Various artists from the first and second editions of OFF THE RADAR have each produced a song especially for the festival to help keep the project alive. From these tracks we have created, with the assistance of the online distribution of digital music, an OFF THE RADAR compilation.</itunes:summary>

We are not a typical label as such, we are a collective of people coming from different backgrounds and professions including visual & kinetic artists, DJ's, musicians, bookers, builders, sound engineers, promotors etc, who are all somehow involved with Fusion Festival in Germany. And it was this place were it all began, where the idea was formed to put on a party on the other side of the planet, to bring together old and new friends from around the world, building bridges between cultures, to invite the crazy and creative ones to put on a one kind of experience, DIY style. We and our 40ft container, filled with toys and tools, travelled all the way from Germany to the southern hemisphere to eventually land in a beautiful forest in NZ in the middle of nowhere. Crazy idea? We know. But it all came together. The first two editions of OFF THE RADAR festival took place in Jan 2014 and Feb 2015. And the end result? A bunch of awesome artists and crew, a multi genre line-up, an amazing audience, overwhelming feedback and the call to do it again in the future. But also an empty treasury! Our idea of staying independent and ruling out industry sponsorship makes things pretty difficult, which is how the idea of releasing and distributing an OFF THE RADAR festival compilation came to be. Various artists from the first and second editions of OFF THE RADAR festival each produced a song especially to help keep the project alive. This compilation represents the diversity of the festival, featuring artists from around the world, from different genres. NZ post-punk heavy weights DIE!DIE!DIE!, US based electronica producer DAEDELUS, German noise rockers DYSE, as well as indie rapper ASTRONAUTALIS alongside others are represented. The ASTRONAUTALIS freestyle homage to OFF THE RADAR 'Bottom of the map' will also be released on 7" and digital download during Fusion festival at the end of June.
