I woke up in the morning and wrote this track and within a few weeks she had passed.

He Denies He Sent the Boy to Get Marihuana Cigarettes

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 20 (UP) -- Gene Krupa, swing­band leader, pleaded innocent today to a charge that he contributed to the delinquency of a minor by sending a 17­year­old boy to his hotel room for marihuana cigarettes. Judge Thomas J. Foley continued the case to Jan. 26 on a motion by defense attorney, J.W. Ehrlich. Mr. Krupa was arrested last night by Federal narcotics agents after appearing at a local theatre. In continuing the case, Judge Foley made public a statement which the youth, John Pateakos, of Bedford, Mass., made to the narcotics agents. The District Attorney's office said that Federal agents arrested Pateakos and found marihuana cigarettes in his possession. Pateakos told the arresting officers, the District Attorney's office said, that he had been sent to the hotel room to get the cigaretes and that he was to take them to the band leader at the theatre. At the city prison, where he was booked and released, the band leader made a general denial of the charges "as I understand them."

Here is Gene's own recounting of his drug arrest. The arrest occured when Gene's valet, who had been drafted, gave him marijuana cigarettes as a "going away present."

"By then I was the glamour boy-15 camel hair coats, three trunks around me all the time-and he couldn't think what to get me. Finally he thought, 'Gee I'll get Gene some grass.' At that time California was hot as a pistol, you could park your car for a bottle of beer and get arrested. So he had a rough time getting the stuff. He probably shot his mouth off a little-'I'm getting this for the greatest guy in the world, Gene Krupa.' Gene decided to leave the marijuana at his hotel. The police, being tipped off, began searching the theater where Gene's band was currently playing. "I suddenly remembered the stuff's at the hotel where they're going next. So I call up my new valet and say, 'Send my laundry out. In one of my coats you'll find some cigarettes. Throw them down the toilet.' But the kid puts them in his pocket and the police nail him on the way out, so I get arrested." "The ridiculous thing was that I was such a boozer I never thought about grass. I'd take grass, and it would put me to sleep. I was an out-and-out lush. Oh, sure, I was mad. But how long can you stay mad? So long you break out in rashes? Besides, the shock of the whole thing probably helped me. I might have gone to much worse things. It brought me back to religion."

Up until the day he died, Body Glove co-founder Bob Meistrell had the chance to do what he loved: power his 72-foot yacht, the Disappearance, in the waters off Southern California.

Meistrell, a surfing and diving legend who started making insulated wet suits decades ago with his identical twin brother, Bill, suffered a heart attack Sunday morning while leading a paddleboard race off Catalina Island, said his son, Robbie. The Torrance man was 84.

"He was one of a kind," Robbie Meistrell said. "And he died doing exactly what he wanted to do. ... He drove his damn boat every day. He touched a lot of people. Best human being I've ever known."

The Disappearance was the lead boat in the 22-mile Rock 2 Rock race Sunday from Isthmus Cove on Catalina to Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. As he's done in previous years, Meistrell led the paddleboarders out of the harbor about 6:30 a.m., his son said.

Meistrell is a South Bay legend -- a veteran waterman, successful businessman and local philanthropist who in his later years powered his boat frequently for charity events and to scatter the ashes of friends' loved ones at sea, his son said.

He'd been active into his 80s -- "I don't know anyone who could keep up with him. He was always on the move," Robbie Meistrell said -- and even marked his 80th birthday with a dive off the Palos Verdes Peninsula, surrounded by family and friends. (He'd done a couple more since then, his son added.)

Meistrell was born July 31, 1928, in Boonville, Mo., and grew up diving with his twin in a pool using a 5-gallon vegetable can for a diving helmet and a tire pump and hose for air.

"We were about as close as we could be," Bob Meistrell once told the Breeze. "We did everything together."

The twins, with their mother, two brothers and three sisters, eventually left the Midwest for Manhattan Beach, where the brothers' love for the water evolved. After graduating in 1947 from El Segundo High School, they worked as some of the first Los Angeles County ocean lifeguards.

They spent time apart in 1950, when both Meistrells were drafted into the U.S. Army. Bob was stationed at Fort Ord, while his older brother was sent to fight in Korea, where he was awarded a Bronze Star.

The Body Glove empire started taking shape in the 1950s; in 1953, the Meistrells bought into the Dive N' Surf store, then situated near the Redondo Beach breakwater, that was owned by surfboard maker Hap Jacobs and surfer and diver Bev Morgan.

When Jacobs left to start his own venture making surfboards, the twins' mother loaned them $1,800 to get into the business with Morgan. He was a friend they'd met while lifeguarding and surfing in the South Bay.

Finally, in 1953, the brothers discovered an insulating material used in the back of refrigerators. It was with this "neoprene" that they fashioned the first practical wet suits -- an innovation that helped the twins to buy Morgan's share of Dive N' Surf in 1957. He went on to manufacture commercial diving helmets in Santa Barbara.

The brothers' shop, which sits today on North Broadway in Redondo Beach, became the home of "The Body Glove." As the story goes, the term was coined in 1966 when a marketing consultant asked the pair to describe how their wet suits fit. "Like a glove," they said.

Written by John Lennon in India, Dear Prudence was about Mia Farrow's younger sister, who refused to leave her chalet at the meditation retreat in Rishikesh, and had to be coaxed out by Lennon and George Harrison.

Prudence Farrow had become infatuated with meditation, locking herself away from the rest of the group and falling into deep states against the advice of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Dear Prudence is me. Written in India. A song about Mia Farrow's sister, who seemed to go slightly barmy, meditating too long, and couldn't come out of the little hut that we were livin' in. They selected me and George to try and bring her out because she would trust us. If she'd been in the West, they would have put her away.
We got her out of the house. She'd been locked in for three weeks and wouldn't come out, trying to reach God quicker than anybody else. That was the competition in Maharishi's camp: who was going to get cosmic first. What I didn't know was I was already cosmic. [Laughs.]

At the end of the course, just as they were leaving, George mentioned that they had written a song about me but I didn't hear it until it came out on the album. I was flattered. It was a beautiful thing to have done.

Written by John Lennon in India, Dear Prudence was about Mia Farrow's younger sister, who refused to leave her chalet at the meditation retreat in Rishikesh, and had to be coaxed out by Lennon and George Harrison.

Prudence Farrow had become infatuated with meditation, locking herself away from the rest of the group and falling into deep states against the advice of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Dear Prudence is me. Written in India. A song about Mia Farrow's sister, who seemed to go slightly barmy, meditating too long, and couldn't come out of the little hut that we were livin' in. They selected me and George to try and bring her out because she would trust us. If she'd been in the West, they would have put her away.
We got her out of the house. She'd been locked in for three weeks and wouldn't come out, trying to reach God quicker than anybody else. That was the competition in Maharishi's camp: who was going to get cosmic first. What I didn't know was I was already cosmic. [Laughs.]

Was cut in a huge Anvil case that had been made into a control room inside of a music store "West LA Music" in Hollywood so we had hundreds of guitars and amplifiers to pick from. As the assistant manager I had the keys to the store. We started at closing time and didn't come out till 7 am the next morning :) We are still friends 40 years later.]]>

Note from Alexis Roche to me when I ask him what this song meant and what that initial spark was good got them to write this beautiful song.

Re the song itself, it's a poem by Paul Verlaine from 1870 that evokes lovers(or maybe a man alone thinking of his missing beloved one)taking an evening walk under the moon. listening to the wind in the trees, watching a black willow reflected in the pond... it's basically about appeasement, dreams and, of course, love. This poem always makes me think about "Dream a little dream of me".
After reading it for the first time, about 25 years ago (I was 17), I took my guitar, put those two chords, and found that melody straight away... I always thought it was over-simplistic, hence never played it with anyone, but for some reason it got stuck in my head and has been haunting me ever since. I eventually decided to record it one year ago, possibly in an attempt to let it go away...
but thanks to the incredible feedback I got from soundclouders, things have not quite happened this way!

I will need therapy too :)
