I realized, whilst peeling a kiwi today, that I don't even know for certain that kiwis come from trees. I wrote the rest of this song while I ate the kiwi.
Also, I want the next album to have at least one track that is actually fully recreatable in a live setting—so here 'tis!
Written, Performed, and Recorded by Jonathan Hodges

Lyrics:

Have you ever seen the kiwi tree?
Well neither have I.
But Wouldn't you like to eat one with me?
We can certainly try...

If he wasn't a tool before he said "I do.”
He certainly will be afterwards—as they all do.
If it weren't for secretaries
where would our step mothers be?

If you tune out the mosquitoes
they will suck your blood
more silently.

But what do you know?
But what do you know?
Not very much...

I finally found a kiwi tree
Turns out their fur isn't for eating...
Our death was knowledge free... sweeter ends are meeting.

If I could die any slower I’d have to blame you.
Like a feral mange that perches on a yorkie... "you're cute!" Isn't helping.

Are these few fruit properly rottening?
They should sit a little bit longer…

The tallest blade of grass ought to be cut first.

The blades have just been sharpened.
The blades have just been sharpened.
The Blades have just been sharpened.

Every drop thinks it caused the flood alone...
But the clouds couldn't care less

But what do you know?
But what do you know?
Lyrics:

I thought I loved you
I thought I believed
It seems the waters were muddied
And now we’re in too deep
Our nightmare’s dream

It’s been six months, and still you can’t believe it.
It’s been a fortnight since I last heard you
I can't believe it’s finally been this long...
And I can’t believe

I couldn’t reject your calls forever
and now my voicemail’s full of tears.

How was it so easy, you ask
I feel your voice quiver over your flask

But why can't I hang up the phone
I feel you crying in my bones
And if you must know… (you’re not alone)

My heart began breaking that first night
Each time you left, I bled a little bit more
And suddenly there wasn't much left to fight for

Now that I’ve left, do you feel any poorer?
Now that I’ve left, do you know what you’ve lost?

Don’t understand why any of this is happening.
There was time when I saved time for you.
Whom do you take for granted now?

Do the possibilities still overwhelm you?
The end is always just around the corner,
Your problems feel even less than I don’t.
You’re waining it’s true.
I’ve said I’m sorry for the last time
What a friend Jesus has in Sinners
A purpose to guide the will.
How many stamps do you need to send stamps?
What of the nameless, do we cry for you?
Did you know to cry too?

Let’s cry for statistics, grasp the humanity we have left.
In this day and age, who do we blame?

Will you look you in the mirror, if I'll look back at me?
We’re running out of reasons to pursue our breath (guilt)
The future is unwinding in the present
The past reliving in the pleasant
If we could but glimpse realities unknown
Aren't memories romantic? Cuz you don't have to be there...
Aren’t memories romantic? Let's just stay home... (make memories here)
If you knew what would kill you, before it killed you
Would you ever get out of bed?
Would you seize the day
Or would you just hang your head?
Let’s cry for statistics, that’s the most human thing to do
In this day and age, whom do we blame?

As I contemplate familial dysfunction and the various stories that make up our individual and collective arsenals of conversational material, it strikes me that though we may experience the same situation, it'll shape each of us completely differently. Two brothers, sons of drunks, grow up such that one is a drunk and the other never drinks anything—they both have the same answer as to why: "My father drank."
In the same way, we each embody a short glimpse in the memories of the people that have really known us. Those memories live most vibrantly through stories——just so, we embody an even lighter glimpse in the memories of people that know us only through such stories.
To a large degree we are the story that is being told... But to a larger degree we are not. Sure, we may have mistreated someone, or we may have been hilarious to be around for the short interval in which you were there... But who were we really? Very few people, when actually pressed to answer this question, can answer it with a story. Stories conflict, they change their shape, their tone. They are improvised and reapportioned and locked up, and freed with alcohol... They are complicated and disastrous, and entertaining. We call the Colosseum barbaric, but perhaps we further a greater disservice around dinner than the romans' bloody reprieves ever did. We are so quick to remember the adjectives that were so concretely attached to a story we heard about some distant friend or family member long since lost to time or clear memory... What are the ethics of memory? Anywho. I wrote a song.
Lyrics:
Today you are becoming the story you'll be. An entirety composed in a few minutes.

Repeated, rewritten, and sung... you'll never know all the things you've done.

Mournful, hysterical, embittered... didn't you choose how you'd be remembered.

*Interlude*

Anecdotes armed with adjectives few,
sprawled across the room
They paint a wretched portrait for all to hear
The unsettling tale of doom.

If you and I had really but met, would we have thought this much of about it?
Would you have given us something (anything) to suffer for?
Or would you have taken what little was left?

Life and dark often meet, would you have been my light?
The world is full of stories untold.
And it seems all the worse for the ones it has known.
Don't you wish it had known yours?
Don't you wish it had remembered you?
Don't you wish it had remembered you?
Lyrics:
Some people don't start aging
Until it's too late
to fully recover
What's been lost and destroyed.

Some turn 16, and never get a day past it.
Nothin much hasn't changed.

You didn't have to
take it out on me.
All I ever wanted
was someone
Someone to look up to.

We become most what we hate--and can't beat
And since I couldn't beat you I became you instead.

Our dysfunctions are fed by
Familial presence. They coddle
And bribe with cursed assurance.

Does anyone really love you?
If they can't tell you when you're wrong
Do you know for sure
that anybody really loves you?
If you were scared, you never said a thing.
And if you hated me, I don't know what I've done.
We managed to work out: "Your windy hair blows in the sand." After the laughter subsided, we decided to make it a little more serious... We may still make that first sentence into a song, but it is not this day. Anywho, we hope you enjoy this! We modeled it after one of our mammy's parenting method(s).

Lyrics and performances by Vivian and Jonathan Hodges

Lyrics:
Do you know what happens to me
It goes in a row like one, two, three

Everyone knows instantly
Everyone knows what you're thinking

Even though you're listening
You don't understand.

Until you're older, a few years later, you'll have to let the memory go.

Hush, just say what you mean. While everyone paying attention.
This is your moment, ask us the right questions.

Please. Make an interrogative.

Lyrics:

If we all woke up tomorrow as garbage men… Would we say
that was part of God’s plan?

Were we to be content, wouldn’t that be a waste?
But weren’t we supposed to get rid of the waste?

Is life a progression of wasted opportunity,
or are we right where we’re supposed to be?

Shouldn’t we be scared?

All around me I see misplaced confidence… But does it really have a place? (It can sleep on my couch)

I don’t wanna be redundant.
Aren’t we redundant?

Chorus:
So I’ll cry in the shower, get it all out, (less of a mess)
it doesn’t really even matter what it’s all about. (What’s it all about?)

It’s nothing in particular,
But it’s everything at once.
Sometimes I think hell is being shown what you could’ve been if you hadn’t been or done that one thing. That it’s being made fully aware of just what a failure you really were. You really are. You really will be.

Well, here's the anthem for that. We are, all of us, just high-schoolers that had a birthday. Once you are enough birthdays removed from your senior year you begin to realize that social media has rendered the mess of adulthood picturesque. And now we can "like" each other's messes.
Nathaniel Zivin and I have slowly begun our next musical pursuit. Easter Sunday (through the unquestionable power of The Fat Man) made an unexpected provision for my person to occupy space in Austin for a little over a weekend. In the wee hours of the morning, of my departure back to Seattle, we wrote and recorded this demo on the fuel of warm beer, cigarettes, and laughter.
Yet again this track offers a different genre and ultimate direction of sound for the band, and thus we are thrilled to see where our future recordings will take us--we hope to include violin on future tracks, along with an innovative approach to Jazz in this coming album. Every track we create is informed wholly by the immediacy and the moment of the recording studio, and as such there is a definitive factor of improvised direction——regardless of what the appearance may convey. We welcome any and all criticism, and look forward with great anticipation to any and all feedback.
Track Notes: The finished track will provide the listener with, as of yet unheard, newly written verses sung by Nathaniel in the style of Bob Dylan. Given time constraints we were only capable of recording my vocal and guitar tracks. Nathaniel's tracks will be added in the official alteration of this demo. Additionally, there may or may not be a badass guitar solo.

Lyrics by Jonathan Hodges, and Nate Zivin.
All Music is the collaborative effort of Jonathan Hodges and Nate Zivin.
Lyrics:
"Oh my Depressed psychiatrist
Am I the reason for your squeezing sadness?
You're choking on cough drops,
You're runnin' through train stops,
you're biggering your apparent mess.

The nightingale sings you a song;
You are so very alone,
But please don't
Leave me alone, alone.

Eventually Trash bins become dump trucks,
Drowning in tearful
Rain drops from above.
Cause I'm lonely,
Please provide your
Manufactured consolation.
Don't leave me alone
Don't leave me
Alone."
Wake up this morning
clean and alive
Climbed out of bed
With one thing in my mind

Dinosaurs fighting for carpeted territory
fending for themselves
In my library

When they roamed the earth
They stomped and stormed around
Now that they're gone
They tend to clean up pretty well
Perfectly sculpted
Perfectly shaped
Dinosaurs romping
Curious mistakes

From the scales on their toes
To the tip of their nose
They're frightening and scary
