Of course we remember and adore John Carpenters classic „Escape from New York“ and we propose this to be the soundtrack for „Escape from Toronto“, the yet to be written sequel, maybe directed by fellow Canadian David Cronenberg?
Staggering synth noir blended with minimal tech house make this a unique experience -while the inner eye is constantly confronted with intense & Lynchesque images of the human twilight and the light only comes up in the sense of white noise, flashing up on old TV screens in pitch dark rooms.
The whole album might be treated as an the enormous, symbolic confrontation between the dark and light forces within a human mind, as if William S. Burroughs had teamed up with a DJ to create the perfect musical interpretation of Naked Lunch.
As usually a team of highly gifted E&D artists has taken the challenge to create their own, dark interpretations of the originals, with a clear tendency rather to the morbid than to the bright side of life. Bill Shakes, Funsize Jonny, Dalo, Pseudo Me & Owen Ni all give their unique interpretations between Disco Noir, Uneasy Listening, Scary House & Dark Tech.

Last but not least in 7mirrors Cottontops remix it’s the notes between the notes that make the vibe of spacious but minimalistic dub techno. It’s the loosest interpretation of what there used to be. “Square Pig” is not „square“ at all – flirting with some classic French house influences. “Nouse” is pure energy inserted into human blood vessels, probably not from a Red Bull Vodka but rather from a Cherry Cola (anyone remembering that one? ) and “Junk” is pulsating through the night while the 90s hipsters indicate their excitement with painting imaginary minimalist pictures in the air and subtle finger moves on the dance floor. Anyone feels like smoking a Lucky Strike now?
Rather Nu Skool sound the remixes by Dalo, Headpocket and Hot Shakes! And hell yeah the „Bill Shakes Hot Shakes! remix“ is exactly that: damn hot! Dalo speeds up the rhythm further and complicates matters for the hipsters by making it even more groovy while Headpocket yet again adds his trademark cosmic vibes moving the track to the deep end of the night. Just before you think the night winds down Klangschwester brings it all back and forward to the second half of the 90s just like Peaches was hooking up with Laurent Garnier.]]> Consequently the opening track is called „Skool“ and sets the mood for the release bringing back sweet memories of early 90s stroboscopic dance floors where visibility was low due to real cigarette smoke.
