Almost unbelievable that the USA did bomb their own people inside the country.

On this day, May 13, 1985, the Philadelphia police attacked a house occupied by MOVE, a Black liberation and environmental group. They used automatic weapons and eventually dropped a bomb on the building. Five adults and six children were killed, and the resulting fire spread, leaving 61 homes uninhabitable in a predominantly Black neighborhood. Around 250 people were left homeless.

Nearly 500 police officers fired more than 10,000 rounds at the house, where women and children were present. Police also used explosives to blast holes in the walls. The police commissioner then ordered the use of an improvised explosive device made from C4 supplied by the FBI to destroy the house. Only two people survived the explosion and the fire: Ramona Africa and 13-year-old Michael Ward.

No police officers were charged, but Ramona Africa was later sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of riot and conspiracy. The incident occurred during the administration of Philadelphia’s first Black mayor, Democrat Wilson Goode.
