Prior to moving to Chicago in 2007, Adrian Drake had forgone experience as a guitar bass player in bands and studios in his home city of Los Angeles, CA. It wasn't until moving here and attending audio school he was exposed to electronic music producers and DJ's. He began learning ProTools for various media applications via school but also picking up a copy of Traktor to learn the mixing, eq'ing, looping, and beat matching of multiple tracks. With the help of various up and coming electronic artists and DJ's he was able to learn and develop his own take on dance music while also learning the history of house and techno. That then turned to using turntables and cdj's with time code that quickly turned to the more modern approach of usb/sd card media reading. Romany has worked as a club promoter, audio/visual tech, content/media production assistant in various Chicago clubs and collectives. Got his first gigs at rave style parties which then changed to more after party/club events which he went under the name Conundrum playing harder electro, bass, dub and everything rave style. Then changing his style and name to Romany in 2015 for a more minimal. dub techno sound combined with atmospheric soundscapes as he'd put it "monochrome aesthetic." Romany has played at multiple Chicago hot spots including Spybar, Primary Nightclub, Debonair Social Club, Annex Nightclub, Berlin Nightclub, Dragon Room, Drop Lounge, Masada, Harbee's, Twisted Cantina, and multiple after-hours​ events. Joined Chicago based media group Blue Moon in 2016 and took over as a new chapter of the media groups already established DJ crew Triple Threat with local favorites Vincent R, Jungle Jimn, and Rafa Ramirez. As new blood the crew share and plan the same vision of positive collaboration through event curating and promotion, live bi-weekly high definition set streams, music production, and future collaborations with various local crews to bring an inverse aesthetic to Chicago's media market and beyond. Currently partnered with Chicago based DJ's, Beaux & Pelle, with their collective BoxedIn curating club and after-hour style events. Romany is in the process of music production and records monthly mixes dubbed Organic Aperture and Abstract Perception which begin with an atmospheric opening going into house/techno and everything in between.
