Alex is Akeem, a Berlin based DJ

What was the saying? "Good music I dance. No good music I not dance."

People usually start wondering when Akeem jumps off the DJ booth to start dancing with the crowd he just made to go nuts with the latest track played. But this characterizes his attitude to electronic music and the people who came to dance in a brilliant way: always be a part of it.

The story begun in the early 90s when Akeem, a Berlin born original, was thrown into this huge melting pot of rapidly changing music and illegal parties at abandoned houses in no-man’s-land area near the broken down Berlin wall, all this resulting in great opportunities for being creative.
Coming from early Hip Hop there has been always a cross reference to House and Techno music. Visiting famous places like WMF, Tresor, famous Ostgut with the early Panorama Bar and especially all those tiny Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday….- Clubs, hidden underneath a square hole in empty ground floor apartments, made him addicted to endless DJ sets and the interaction between crowd and the master of this ceremony.
Consequently, 2 old turntables were bought and record stores became a second home. He started DJing at Bars or illegal clubs like GMT and a lot more (R.I.P.), always with focus on the dance floor and the current mood of the people entering it.
Together with a bunch of good friends Alex started the project ‘freilauf’ in Berlin 2005, an association of like-minded people to transform unused or abandoned places into temporary dance temples or exhibition galleries. In 2007 they occupied the pedestrian tunnel right underneath Berlins famous Alexanderplatz, set up a proper PA and just switched it into a massive rave. The crowd rose to nearly 800 people within a couple of hours and everyone got finally busted by the Police, but the Internet community was strong already and kept it in mind….

Akeem continued his journey becoming a DJ resident in Arenaclub and started to support Berlin based labels . In the recent time this is extended to numerous gigs and afterhours in all the lovely places in Berlin and Europe we are all addicted to. In addition Akeem had a FM residency at Twen.FM radio station and is hosting his bi-monthly ‘I will change. I promise.’ - Party at the infamous black hole of Korean endless nights, the Soju Bar.

He is always trying to seek the magic formula to fuse ecstatic House and Deep House to a mix that keeps people where they should always belong to: on the dance floor, eyes wide shut and feet unable to stand still…..
