A while ago, a friend in Australia sent me a link to a video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=el1ZhkN85Mc - about a musical challenge presented to five musicians, and their respective responses. The challenge: compose in Locrian. Any genre, any instrumentation - prove it can be done.

I couldn't help thinking about how I might go about it. I reckon the Samurai Guitarist has the right approach: don't pick a style and try to coerce Locrian into it - find a style in which it works and go from there.

The thing about Locrian is it *sounds* modal. It needs a style that's modal in its nature, like Folk - or, indeed, Modal Jazz. I had a go at both and the latter came out sounding pretty good.

Enjoy!
