Born near Plymouth in 1988 and raised in Somerset his roots are in the sticks. Music came at a young age with pots and pans getting smashed up, constant influence from his parents collection of everything from Rush to Dire Straits led to an addiction to drumming and heavy music. Teens brought on more great influences like hip hop and trance, he listened to artists like Souls of Mischief, Nas, Biggie, JFK, Matt Darey and Robert Miles and a growing party scene around the local area meant that raving at free parties was a given. Drums were bought and sold, bands were created, music was made, everything was absorbed.

In 2001 he first heard Drum & Bass, it was Roni Size & Reprazent - Brown Paper Bag. That came with an early introduction to the Dogs On Acid forum confirming that the track was already four years old which inevitably blew his mind. Everything for him changed paving the way to many labels and naturally, like all the others before him, he turned to the decks by taking on a friends trusty set of Technics and started playing any house or free party he could under the name Tatsu.

In 2002 his aunty fresh out of uni put Hospitals third mixtape in front of him and changed the game again.. “I purchased every piece of wax i could, London Elektricity, High Contrast, Nu:Tone, Logistics, the lot.” He found Logical Progression, heard Demons Theme and Horizons. Delved deeper into the fascinating history of Good Looking Records, marvelled at the way Bukem had created a shelter for a host of excellent producers.

“I scanned Hard To Find Records and all the others every day looking for the classics and gems i’d missed out on getting in the record shops.”

“Waiting for the next mix, you know like Andy C’s nightlife series.. or hearing anyone mixing on the Fabio and Grooverider show.. all that meant more to me then anything..”

By the mid 2000’s the list of artists he was into now was long, the sets of dnb were diverse and controlled. Watching Hype, Zinc, Nicky Blackmarket and Andy C with MC Skibadee at Westfest meant he had to go back year after year. Playing small venues in Cardiff, Plymouth, Bristol, London and many others has given him the chance to shape his sound.

Between then and now, Ad:Rift has been blessed enough to play events like, Rubbadubdub, Boomting, Show Me The Light and In:Depth. With a two show takeover of Tremor Sound System vs Boomting hosted at bristols Basement45.

He also has guest mixes on Deep Space Records and Rubbadubdubs soundcloud page and is constantly showcasing his take on blending drum and bass together with three ongoing mix series called Liquid Sessions, Limitless and Inner Circles.

His Mixcloud page is the hub of his activity and where most of his movements go down, coupled with Soundcloud and Hearthis. Work has begun on the production of his first track but progress is slow while he builds up the sound he wants, though there are rumours that his first release might be a collaboration with another close artist only time will tell.

One thing is certain, Ad:Rift is still putting real drum and bass together.
