When does summer really begin? There's a technically correct answer to this question, but I'm not concerned with that. Only our hearts can truly provide an acceptable answer.

The film industry would like us to believe that summer begins whenever their most recent major blockbuster is premiering at the theater, usually in mid-spring. That's not it.

Someone interested in facts might say the solstice is in June, but come on now. Summer definitely begins before that. We all know it.

For me, it begins right about now - just as classes wind up on campus, and folks get to go start enjoying their summer break. The sun starts to show up again and temperatures in Vancouver inch up into the double digits, which, as any local will tell you, is plenty warm enough to throw on a swimsuit and bolt to the nearest beach. Patios are barely justifiable & shorts begin to appear. The city wakes up.
