David Bercot discusses the history of Judea from the time of Nehemiah up through the birth of Christ and the reign of Herod. He goes into detail about the Jewish revolt under the Greek ruler, Antiochus IV, and the eventual establishment of an independent Judea. Among other things, he discusses the origin of the Septuagint, the history of the Pharisees and Sadducees prior to Christ, and how the Romans came to rule over the Jews.

The boyfriend/girlfriend game of our western culture is like an idol. This idol is erected not only in our society, but also in our homes & churches! It is not possible to build an altar to the Lord without first destroying false idols. This message gives little direction in relation to finding a mate, but it destroys the idol so that people are then able to hear God's truth.Dr. Davis begins by showing that there is such a thing in our culture as philosophies that are passed down by tradition instead of being based on God's Word. The boyfriend/girlfriend philosophy is one such deceptive philosophy that is clearly leading our youth into mental, emotional, & spiritual captivity. The falseness of this philosophy is exposed by the Word of God. It is also exposed by the bad fruit it has produced in the lives of numerous people.

In this sermon John D Martin preaches on the teaching of "The Kingdom of God." He describes this as a teaching that is very neglected by modern Christianity. He points out that this is particularly disturbing considering that it is the most popular topic of Jesus. In discussing the Kingdom John D gives a wonderful definition of what a "kingdom Community" should look like. He says that it is an example to the world of what it should look like if everyone would follow the teachings of Jesus. That's what the church should be! In describing the theme of the kingdom John D highlights a few of the "kingdom Teachings" that are most neglected including love, materialism, helping the poor, economics, servant-leadership, brotherhood and community.

This message was given at Kingdom Fellowship Weekend 2012. The audience was mainly conservative Mennonites or other Anabaptists. Therefore, dome of his rebukes are particularly addressed to them. However, I think it is fair to say that the rebukes can be given to the body of Christ at large as well.

(From Wikipedia)
The Book of Wisdom (or Wisdom of Solomon, Wisdom, Book of the Wisdom of Solomon), is one of the books of the Bible. It is considered scripture, classified as deuterocanonical (meaning "second canon", "secondary canon", or "of secondary authority") by the Roman Catholic Church and similarly, anagignoskomenon (Gr. ἀναγιγνωσκόμενον, meaning "that which is to be read") by the Eastern Orthodox Church. Protestant churches generally consider it to be non-canonical (apocryphal), and thus not Biblical "scripture". It is one of the seven Sapiential or wisdom books included within the Septuagint, along with Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs (Song of Solomon),Job, , and Sirach.

Eusebius wrote in his Church History that Bishop Melito of Sardis in the 2nd century AD considered Wisdom of Solomon as part of the Old Testament (without necessarily using the term "canonical"), and that it was considered canonical by Jews and Christians. On the other hand the contrary claim has been made: "In the catalogue of Melito, presented by Eusebius, after Proverbs, the word Wisdom occurs, which nearly all commentators have been of opinion is only another name for the same book, and not the name of the book now called 'The Wisdom of Solomon'." An Aramaic translation of the Wisdom of Solomon is mentioned by Naḥmanides in the preface to his commentary on the Pentateuch.

Minimalist living is countercultural. It is contrary to every advertisement we have ever seen because we live in a society that prides itself on the accumulation of possessions.

But there is more joy to be found owning less than can be found pursuing more. Consider just some of the benefits of living with fewer possessions.

1. Spend Less | Choosing to accumulate only the essential often results in financial freedom.

2. Less Stress | A minimalist home is significantly less stressful.

3. Easier to Clean | The fewer things in our home, the easier they are to clean.

4. More Freedom | The sense of freedom that comes from minimalism is truly refreshing.

5. Good for the Environment | The less we consume, the less damage we do to the environment.

6. Be More Productive | Our possessions consume our time more than we realize.

7. Example for my Kids | These are valuable life lessons they will never learn in the media.

8. Support Other Causes | Money is only as valuable as what we choose to spend it on.

9. Own Higher Quality Things | More is not better… better is better.

10. Less Work for Someone Else | Create a less stressful life today and lessen the burden on someone else too.

11. Be Happier | Owning fewer possessions makes you happier.

12. Do Work You Love | Own less stuff. Choose work you love.

13. Freedom From the Comparison Game | Our culture begs us to own more.

14. Time for Things that Matter Most | The more stuff you own, the more your stuff owns you.

15. Visually Appealing | Make your home more appealing.

16. Not Tied to the Past | Release the past to create a better tomorrow.

17. Less Places for Your Heart | Invest your heart into meaningful things.

18. More Opportunity for Rest | Take a deep breath.

19. Find Things Easier | Own less clutter. Find stuff quicker.

20. Live in a Smaller Space | For most families, a house is the costliest investment they’ll ever make.

In this recording, David Bercot explains what the kingdom of God is, why it was the theme of Jesus’ and the apostles’ preaching, and what difference it makes in the life of a Christian when we understand the Kingdom of God.

Bercot also discusses some of the laws of the Kingdom. As he explains, man was designed and structured for the Kingdom of God. When we obey the laws of the Kingdom, we are obeying what is best for ourselves. We were made to belong to the Kingdom. At the same time, the Kingdom is the most radical proposal ever made to mankind.
The Kingdom Of God 12/09/2011
My mind is spinning. I could get a ThD and not know a tenth of what's on this CD. One of the commonest replies I hear is, "what Jesus meant to say was...," but you explain what Jesus said without guessing at what He meant. Thank you, David, for being the first one in my life to explain WHY Jesus and His followers kept referring to God's Kingdom. Vague and nebulous are all that ever came to mind previously when I read the many Scriptures which refer to it. God's enabled me to knowledgeably focus now.

On point, challenging 03/25/2010
By Paul Brown
In what is one of the best sermons/talks I've heard, David challenges us to the core by breaking out of the false paradigms and presuppositions of our traditions. Defenitely helps to bring us back to Jesus' gospel and David argues so logically, that most of what he says is both provocative and delightfully obvious.

A Challenging New Look at Today's Evangelical Church in the Light of Early Christianity.

Review
"Early Christianity was a revolution that swept through the ancient world like fire through dry timber," challenging traditional customs and institutions. The author contends that the early Church's stance toward society should concern us deeply, as we face many similar burning issues: divorce, abortion, entertainment, war, economic injustice, and the role of men/women.
Bercot, who is also a lawyer, takes the reader on a very stimulating journey in which we meet Polycarp (who was personally discipled by the apostle John) and other second-century witnesses. -- The Plough, April, 1990

Perhaps the single most important thing the book did for me was to introduce me in an unforgettable way to the early Christian writings. ...However, the author, David Bercot, does more than introduce the reader to the early Christians and their writings he advances a powerful and persuasive argument as to why we should take the early Christians and their writings seriously. This argument is basically similar to saying that the further upstream you go, the purer the waters should be. He makes a convincing case that these early Christian writers were in the best possible position to interpret and understand what the inspired writers had in mind when they wrote the New Testament. After all, some of these early Christian leaders were co-workers with the apostles and knew them personally. It is logical that they had a real advantage over us who read the Bible after nearly 2,000 years. -- Family Life, October, 1989

To say this book packs a jolt is an understatement. Bercot doesn't point fingers; he just tells it like it is, and no book other than Snyder's The Problem of Wineskins has affected my thinking of the church more than this one. This book has my highest recommendations. -- The Obligator, August, 1989

We've heard it all before. The church's decline began when Constantine named Christianity the religion of the Roman Empire. David Bercot recounts all this and more. He is deeply concerned with the church's lack of spirituality. He is upset that the church has adopted worldly standards of success rapid growth and wealth. He is right in feeling and expressing these concerns. And he expresses them well. -- Bookstore Journal, November, 1989

(((From the Back Cover)))
Sex and money scandals. An exploding divorce ate. Drug-addicted youths. And an ever-growing worldliness. Today's church is fighting battles on all fronts. And we seem to be losing these battles to the relentlessly encroaching world. Perhaps the answers to our problems are not in the present, but in the past. Because there was a time when the church was able to stand up to the world. The author takes you on an engrossing journey back to that time back to the beginning of the second century. Here is an inspiring account of what Christians believed and practiced at the close of the age of the apostles and how the church eventually lost the Christianity of that time.
But this is not primarily a history book. It's a fresh, creative look at the problems facing the church today and the solution to those problems. It's a call for today's church to return to the simple holiness, unfailing love, and patient cross-bearing of the early Christians.

Will The Real Heretics Please Stand Up combines sound scholarship with a free-flowing, readable style designed for contemporary laypersons. If you're looking for superficial solutions to today's problems or a restatement of traditional answers, you will need to look elsewhere. This provocative book confronts traditional answers and challenges you to a deeper walk with God the walk of the early Christians.
