Kiu D lands back at the Masterworks HQ for his latest missive in the form of the “The Journey” LP. Having steadily climbed the ranks of modern disco producers with consistent releases for the likes of Hot Digits & Special Edition… he returns to Masterworks with his 4th outing on the label. Rounding up a fierce collection of heavy beats, sampled grooves and lush melodies, Kiu D remains in fine form and is apparently immune to resting on his laurels.

With a whopping 10 tracks to pick from Dig the classic, Motown flair of “Calm Before the Storm,” with it’s hypnotic bass riff and airy chord work. Moving on, “Dynamite” captures the essence of some prime time, disco-sleaze with it’s familiar chug but it’s the bridge section where Kiu really let’s his creativity fly with all manner of groovy Rhodes and psychedelic flute work. “The Journey” takes us deeper down the path with it’s low-slung house vibes while “Sweet Is Better” is a Moog-driven dance floor burner. Highlights aside, there are plenty of treats to discover easily something capable of tickling any punters boogie feather.

Low slung vibes permeate both sides of this deadly, wax affair and HDS wastes no time getting things cooking with opener, “All The Way.” A looped bass riff keeps the pace for close to seven minutes while horn stabs and jangly guitars bounce around next to soulful chants. “Fantom (African Woman)” comes up next with a percussive stomp and vocals courtesy of Nigeria’s own funk king.

Flip it over for “Floatin’” where a familiar, Ashford & Simpson groove gets some heavy scalpel work and updated key melodies to a beautiful effect. Once the stings hit about half-way through, you too will believe in the restorative power of love…truly gorgeous. Wrapping us up is “Prelude,” a hip-shaking rework of an absolute classic… perfect for the wind-up or wind-down…

January landed with a splash and the inaugural outing of ‘The Masters Series…” a lovely little, vinyl-only series of 10” wax featuring some of our favourite folks in the scene. Volume’s 1 and 2 were supplied by our mates at Closed Paradise and OOFT! and it’s an absolute joy for us to welcome The Silver Rider into the fold with Volume 3. Having joined us a few times before on Bag Of Tricks and Masterworks Vol. 2 compilations, it was a no-brainer when The Rider shot over a fresh batch of tunes for us to peep. We settled on the A-side with “Another Day,” a groovy, low-slung number with 808’s, Moog leads and gorgeous Rhodes-piano that just melts away any negative vibes. On the B-Side, “Eazy Breezy” was an ideal compliment with its guitar-laden groove and soulful vocals… this one is sure to soundtrack many a day party in the new year!

In addition to everything just mentioned, The Silver Rider also found some time to put together a lovely guest mix to keep everyone dancing straight into the new year. Jam packed of funky baselines, sample heavy joints and forthcoming tunes from hot-bed labels like Better Listen, FHUO, Whiskey Pickle and Swedish Brandy… The Silver Rider laces an hour long mix that comes just in time for the giving season. As a teenager he meet the music as a breakdancer with the love for popping. The music that made him move was early 80z electro, P-funk and various boogie tunes. Through the clubs and dancefloors, It was natural for Lux to find his way into both the Dj booth and the producer chair. As a DJ and record collector his main focus was funk, breaks, disco, boogie and P-funk. Production wise the direction took a rather surprising turn as he started to produce his new won love in music, 90s house music.After running a label, releasing numerous tracks, remixes, some critically acclaimed gems, by change, he learned that a whole new genre of music, edits, has developed right under his nose.

The combination couldn't be more natural for Lux, as he now could combine his production skills with his musical knowledge and record collection to produce edits. His first edit release came on the well known label Giant Cuts. His first EP, "Skate EP," made it into top ten on both Juno and Traxsource. After releasing two more EP's on the same label, Lux was granted a spot in the Traxsource top 100 edit producers for 2015. This acknowledgment didn't go unnoticed, and Masterworks music had Lux joining the "Bag of tricks vol 2" compilation. At the same time an EP deal was signed, and the result is his "Streetdisco EP."

Around 1991 he made his first record Flashback - You, he then started to record under the name b b r streetgang around 91 and signed to Scottish label Hubba Hubba and did two releases before moving on to a subsidiary of dead dead good records, called transworld where his love of the disco sound started in his releases for the label.

Now Mike is back into production and doing what he loves and we are really glad to have him onboard!!]]>

Masterworks Music certainly know how to make an entrance, kicking off their new "Bag Of Tricks" series with a star-studded cast of studio wizzards. The young label hand pick four of the best high-end sizzlers from a who's who of the nu-disco scene, providing any jock on the frontline with a whole lot of bang for their buck. First up, Spain's edit master Rayko takes a break from his Rare Wiri imprint to turn out a red hot electro-disco groover based on Chic's "Dance Dance Dance" - scorchio! Masterworks Music certainly know how to make an entrance, kicking off their new "Bag Of Tricks" series with a star-studded cast of studio wizzards. The young label hand pick four of the best high-end sizzlers from a who's who of the nu-disco scene, providing any jock on the frontline with a whole lot of bang for their buck. First up, Spain's edit master Rayko takes a break from his Rare Wiri imprint to turn out a red hot electro-disco groover based on Chic's "Dance Dance Dance" - scorchio! Next up, Kiu D follows up his impressive release on Special Edition with the housed up heat of italo-funk freakout "New Year", a slick hit of synths and strings which will get everyone on the floor. Late Nite Tuff Guy is an absolutely superb DJ with immaculate programming and flawless mixing skills, last year whist in London he performed in the Mixmag Lab and he also has some very influential supporters, Greg Wilson, Jackmaster, Heidi and Dimitri from Paris have been regularly playing a handful of LNTG tracks in any given set and their ongoing support is testament to the quality of his work.

Having played at parties globally for over a decade he is the master of the future retro party sound and have taken the Nu-Disco scene by storm for quite some time now.

And not forgetting head honcho of Masterworks Music 80's Child aka Danny Worrall. has seen a meteoric rise in the last few years. A brilliant DJ and producer who always displays his love for all things 80's.

Danny Worrall‘s Masterworks Music finally gets around to its first physical release and in time for summer no less! For this first EP the label have cherry picked the highlights from their digital compilation and given them the vinyl release they always deserved, alongside a couple of choice unreleased cuts. Booming out of the A1 in a burst of cowbell, laser fire and filter swept magic is Dr Packer's "Sunshine" a block rocking nu disco version of the timeless Rocker's Revenge classic, which incorporates elements of the Vocal, Accapella and Dub mix. On the A2, Yam Who? come through with a deep discoid jam ornamented with tasty flute licks, smooth vocals and airy keys. The original instrumentation and groove is still present and correct, just beefed up by some additional percussion and well aimed frequencies.
Get Down Edits open the B-side with the steady throb of "Sweet Stuff", a low slung lovers groove with sweet, almost whispered vocals and a killer bassline. It falls to Coutel to close the package out with the cinematic stomp of "Stop That", a superb builder which incorporates elements of Italo, boogie and proto house on the way to its diva vocalled peak! The new label has already released a sturdy batch of modern disco and house music and has upcoming EP's in the pipeline from the likes of Dave Gerrard, Rayko, Queen & Disco and P-Sol to be on the lookout for.]]> A2.
