Hi there ccMixters,

This time our ticket was BeatMachine: We went through his catalogue amazed by the boldness of the presented tracks, its compounds and compilations, all served in this jazzy sleaziness. It got us thinking…

It dawned on us that we better have viable direction for a proper 7OOP3D track. We decided to let it evolve through a re-conflation of the original stems from “Black Is The Night”. So, technically we did not use samples from BeatMachine, but used all of the sample sources smashed together again. One could argue we cheated…?

Anyway, it was a great mess of diverging keys and tempi, but a classy one. We tried to reimagine what else might be possible with these gems of stems. After re-pitching almost every inch, then adding our own toppings, this track came alive.

It sounds like being in a dusty motel room of an 80s urban road movie on VHS tape, played way too often. We like that.

Then we almost forgot to add something to the actual theme of this Secret Mixter.
Sleighbells on some major chords: Checked.

After finishing the bassline and some other structural movements something was missing: Vocals. Again. This time we headed over to Kara’s well of inspiration and snatched one there. As usual our track was in wrong mode and key (F Phrygian), so we fixed the vocals. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Meanwhile we splashed a hint of secret sauce from the depth of our electromagnetic loop saturation cauldron for maximum enjoyment. Voila, c’est fait & wohl bekomms!]]>

At first we could not decide from which track to go forward with so we just took them all. We cut every track into handy loop packets and shuffled them around. This wooden sounding sequence at the beginning was an ideal starting point and after some trial and error we had a basic progression through junkiestation1’s uploads, going mainly from “Cidade Sol” to “Le Illusioni”, backed up with “Dust From The Stars” throughout. While programming beats, sequences, other extensions and adding parts from the original pellas used by junkiestation1 the material started to glue and fuse together. It blends really well now, we are still a bit in surprise…

We tried to keep the spirit of both, Unsaid and No Forever, and added some herbs and spices to get another drive to it. PattsiPeng supplied us with the vocals. She hasn’t heard the original stem by oldDog either the remix by Vidian until the release date.

This spheric-swing-pop tune has 59 separate tracks in the DAW, which almost burned Sloan’s Mac and made it hard to play it back in realtime without freezing some of the tracks.

This is our submission for the Flying Time Mixter event (http://ccmixter.org/playlist/browse/12603). We had a lot of fun and material to work with, thanks to our assignment to Audiotechnica.

The whole idea for our track started when we heard this amazing 'Portishead-stylish' intro sound from Light. We cut a loop from it and it took not too much imagination where the track was heading for: A dark and slow beat driven track, somewhere between Hip Hop and Trip Hop - perfect for some serious head nodding… But without vocals we realized that it was a tad naked though. Fortunately we found these absolutely great vocal stems of "Spinning" by Kara Square. For us they match perfectly in sound, timbre and delivery; and the lyrics gives us the creeps - so true!]]>
