CHIMES
THE TREE OF LIFE
By RAINE CAROSIN

I’m melting into my ancestors
Watching my blood branch out
To the tender youth of young buds
Mirrored deep in the thick mud
Where wisdom guides thirsty roots
To nurture the fruit and nut of the gods

Writ in my skin is the name of my Father
Before the seed and the light
Inspiring terror and delight
To those in fright or flight

The great slumber of the bulk of me
As I bend in my bough
Breathes me here and there
And moves me in dreams
Through wombs and tombs in misty hollowness

Listen to the ancient echoes
Timelessly moulding words of love
For the fallen and the stolen
And lie bent in your bough
Watching your life grow

Living long and alive
Watching the young buds leave
The Maker moves seeds whence He will
Above and below, mirrored, yet melting – but for time
