We lost touch as the years went on. The last time we spoke was in 2015 to inform me his Wife and my dear friend had passed. He told me he knew I did what I had to do and there was nothing to forgive. That\u2019s one small example of the astonishing heart and spirit he held within. \r\n\r\nI\u2019m not one to look people up online. Despite how nostalgic I can be at times; I\u2019m mostly looking forward. This past Saturday, early morning, I woke up from a deep sleep, his full name, in bold type, still vividly in my sight. I felt uncontrollably compelled to look him up. The first page was his obituary\u2026 Yeah. \r\n\r\nRyan passed away at age 43 on Saturday, March 7, 2020 from automobile accident. He was in no way at fault; the other driver was traveling the wrong way on Interstate 80. \r\n\r\nI\u2019ve been working on this set off and on for a year. Tweaking this, shifting that. Moving on to other mixes, then returning and repeating the process. How curious this news found me the morning before I was set to record. I wasn\u2019t sure I could do it honestly. Then I knew he\u2019d want me to. \r\n\r\nI set everything up and started mixing. Let me tell you, 20-25minutes in, the room around me melted away and I was 18 again in our basement mixing Hardcore. I could see Stabby so clearly sitting on the couch, taking a drag off a cigarette, eyes widened ever so slightly with an approving nod when I landed a transition. \r\n\r\nStraight up I have next to no recollection mixing after that. It\u2019s the kind of flow state any creative person dreams of. One last parting gift I suppose. Stabby man, you\u2019re on the biggest trip of all! Wherever you are, I hope you dig the mix.
