CarrKrash - The Mixtape - Unreleased Perth Trip Hop (2002)

Carrkrash are a instrumental trip hop band from Perth Est 2002 Feat Optamus (Downsyde) on production, Brettski (Sunshine Bros) on guitar, Carlsani (SBX) on decks and Jakey on bass.
This outfit produced a small collection of tracks over a few years sighting influences to the likes of DJ Shadow, Portishead, Massive Attack etc..

The story behind the mixtape.
Sometime back in the mid 2000’s i was at a gig at the Rosemount Hotel, I vaguely remember it being one of the Thurs night Hip Hop shows put on by Armee and Opt and i might of played a set there that night, anyway afterwards i gave Opt a lift home and he said come in and blaze a couple and hang out in his then bedroom studio.
He played me these beats and told me of this side project he had going on a few years earlier called Carrkrash.
I remember at the time really diggin these beats as the whole Trip Hop thing had been happening in the 90’s and it reminded me of early Shadow stuff which i liked.
Years went by and i eventually left Perth but i never forgot that name Carrkrash and the beats.
Back in 2012 i was listening to something that again reminded me of the group and i hit Optimus up if he still had those tracks and if i could hear them again.
He dug around and after a few weeks he uploaded 4 tracks to Reverberation and i download them and then it was sort of forgotten about again.
Last year i hit Optimus up again about CarrKrash and he had found four other beats that were made by the group that no one had heard yet.
He cleaned them up and sent them over to me. So i now had 8 tracks in total by the group.
I asked Opt if i could maybe press them to vinyl or making some lathe cuts but after crunching some numbers and really thinking about it it didn’t seem viable as no one really even knew this group existed.
A few months back i just decided to make a mixtape of the 8 tracks just for myself to listen to but i thought i’d share it today.
