1992 - 092510 The Shelter Is Now Condos (320kbps)

I made this to go along with my Limelight tribute mix, Bad Lieutenant. If these two mixes were tapes they would have been warn out already. I was remenissing over the wonderful NASA Rewind event of 2002 at the time when I made this. I always hoped there would be follow up parties like it so I did a search on the internet and I discovered that the Shelter Club had actually been ripped a part and converted into condos... just like the Hacienda. I was quite heartbroken to discover this. Yet at the same time I felt quite blessed that I got to enjoy at least one night of the place that had been ground zero for the sound that I love in the US.

This mix has some of the anthems from that night such as Yolk Bish Bosh (a track that I hated till I heard it for the 100th time at Nasa Rewind), Phuture Assasin's Phuture Sound, and Hypno-Genesis "Take Control". I also included alternate mixes of other tracks played that night to keep it sounding interesting. On top of that I put in tracks that I would have liked to have heard that night but didn't like Joint Project and Wonka Beats tunes. As a whole, the mix sounds more laid back and housey then it does an anthem fest of 1992 tracks.

Since this time there has been another NASA party and for obvious reasons it was not at the Shelter Club. It was held at a rock and roll club in Brooklyn which wasn't set up to play dance music. Some of the DJs weren't even really into it as they were playing modern stuff. On top of that I don't think theres really that many people left who really like this as the turn out was depressing. Still I appreciate that Scott Osman (NASA) tried to do another one, and actually got DJ Nex to play a set, my hats off to him.

I just spent the past hour and a half making this tracklist from scratch using the discogs database. Doing this really makes me wish DJ Skie/Joint Project had released more of his deep house infused 'ardkore back in the day. That stuff was so nice.
