I'm really out of my comfort zone with this one here. I usually don't go back in time this far. The nice thing about dance music this old is that the majority of it is american and can be found at record shows for a dollar a peice, five dollars at the most. I'm sure most brits who want Phuture "Acid Tracks" will have to shell out a load but, I found it for less then a dollar (in a crate of ~50 records that cost me 20.00 actually). I guess it balances out as I just had to pay 150.00 for Men from Del Bosca El-Bland-E so whatever.

Got the idea for this one after reading Peter Hook's autobiography "The Hacienda: How not to run a club" this past Spring. If you enjoy old dance music as much as I do I highly recommend this book. Its actually the best read on dance music I've ever read. Its all that and a hardcover! It even has tracklistings for some of the more famous DJ nights which is a good reference for making sets like this.

I also used 24 Hour Party People the movie, videos on youtube, and the Graeme Park & Mike Pickering NUDE August 1989 set as reference for how to make this tribute set. As an afterthought I made a part 2 of this on 09/05/2012 which I was inspired to make after watching more Hacienda youtube videos. I will post that shortly.

I decided to call this set Tony Wilson because without him this kindle may not have become the fire that made the floors burn all over the world. I'd say Tony is just as important to dance music as Kraftwerk, Derrik May, and Roland (Japan). I actually tried to contact him on Myspace after seeing the 24 Hour Party People movie as I made a half decent Wishdokta style track with samples from the movie and wanted to send it to him. Sadly he never wrote back and how hes dead. I can't think badly about him because of it. I will forever think he's a great guy because of what he did with that money pit of a club. He didn't make a dime from the Hacienda but he forever changed the world for the better. He should have gotten a Nobel Peace Prize. Then again that prize doesn't mean much these days as anyone can get one.

I'm currently reading Tony's book "24 Hour Party People". It's a book about the movie. Usually this works the other way around.

Theres interesting information about DEVO's Disco Dancer on the commentary for their music video compilation. Enigma really didn't know how to release a 12" dance record and it shows as the radio cut is cut before the full 12" cut. Both sides of that record have the same cuts.

The back and forth mix of "It Takes Two" was inspired by the Cool DJ Red Alert rap shows on Kiss FM NY. I was pretty obsessed with that show. I was listening to Rap when everyone in High School was still into metal. Then I discovered 'Ardkore from that same show (they did a special 'Ardkore night when Kiss FM bought out Kiss the pirate radio station in London... the one night I didn't tape the show).
