- My intro to electronic music was when I was around 16, I’d spent many years a passionate music lover on mostly a diet of punk, industrial, goth and alternative music. Heaps of concerts and festivals. I started going to this nightclub in Sydney, Hellrazor that really introduced me to the electronic elements in music, the industrial side that I really preferred.

After finding techno and years of knocking about town attending gigs I had some gear at home that I used to play with. I err on the heavier side of techno, the darker side, but with lots of melody and emotion. I like industrial techno, EBM stuff, music that reflects how I feel. I believe selection and programming is key. I’m all about the journey in my mixes, about telling a story. It’s deeply personal. I feel I am guided by something outside of myself.

While a relatively new project, Oscar Mike's origins stretch back to the early 00’s in the Sydney rave scene where he first started collecting records. Next stop was Japan where he was involved with the strong Techno and House scenes of Osaka and Kobe and eventually expanded into breaks and even dub/reggae. Most recently 2015 saw Oscar Mike spend time writing and DJ’ing in Berlin further refining and tuning his sound. All these influences make for a diverse spectrum that ranges from esoteric, Dubby soundscapes to driving Techno, however the one constant that persists both in his DJ sets and productions is a sense of space, atmosphere and movement.

Throughout his early life, ZigMon didn’t quite fit, never with an urge to conform. Slight uncomfortability became a norm, being a misfit became median. But nearing adulthood, he fell neatly into the equilibrium between techno and psychedelia. Embracing the outdoor electronic music scene in his home region of Coffs Harbour, he was dosed heavily with psy-trance, glitch-hop, progressive - and techno was something different. He began Bassic Records with a collective of Coffs Harbour deriving DJs who pushed the sounds of techno, minimal and house in the outdoor scene. It was something different. And that is what ZigMon aims to create with anything he constructs, whether it’s a DJ set or an event. This podcast represents that equilibrium between techno and psychedelia; a touch of doof, a touch of Sydney, a touch of Bassic, and all of himself. The image used is of a friend of his (he’s not dead), he is someone ZigMon see's as a mirroring representative of a misfit - the light and the dark - the crazy. Exemplary of pure love for peculiar music contrasting wasted times wasted on the young.
